         <description><![CDATA[<p>South Sudan is in Northeast Africa, has a population of almost 11 million, and it is bordered by Sudan, Ethiopia, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and Kenya. Its capital is Juba.</p><p><br/></p><p>I chose South Sudan because I knew it was the newest country in the world and thought it would be interesting.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I chose Asida, which is a doughy dumpling made by either steaming or baking. Pieces are then ripped off to eat with other meals, like how some people dip bread in soup.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I chose Boma National Park for the natural wonder. It is 22800km^2 and has around 2 million animals occupying it. I chose it because it almost reminds me of the Field of Reeds in Egyptian mythology, and I thought that was cool.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Freedom Bridge is a gift from Japan to South Sudan, as a symbol of friendship and peace. Construction was initiated in 2012, a year after South Sudan gained independence, and the bridge as completed May 19, 2022. I chose this bridge because it is one of few large projects undertaken under South Sudan after it gained independence.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Bor Dinka Wrestling Festival is a celebration among the Dinka people, which is the largest Ethnic group in South Sudan. The festival consists of several wrestling competitions, and typically attracts a large crowd. In Dinka culture, wrestling is a way to settle disputes between two people, not just a sport.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>St. Therese cathedral is located in Juba. It is a Roman Catholic Church that was erected in 1952. During the civil war, the cathedral acted as a place of sanctuary, housing about 5000 people. 60% of the population of South Sudan identify as Christian.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>South Sudan has an extremely varied culture of music, ranging from several different indigenous cultures with folk music as well as music heavily influenced by neighboring countries. Many more modern music artists use a mix of languages, including English, Kiswahili, Arabic and more. The video linked is an example of Wayo drummers.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><br/></p><p>Modern art in South Sudan is similar to a lot of art in the West, using oils, acrylics, and watercolors. Throughout history, however, the Zande people have showed extreme craftsmanship. The most well known pieces of art from the Zande are the yanda, which are small statuettes made to venerate women who participate in magical ceremonies.</p>]]></description>

It has been translated into more than 30 languages, and it is about a man who studies abroad, later discovering that he had been replaced.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>After a civil war in Sudan that ended in 2005, South Sudan had a self-determination referendum in January of 2011, and had an overwhelming majority vote for independence. On the same day, the USA recognized South Sudan as a country and immediately established diplomatic relations. It is the newest country in the world.</p>]]></description>

The African Wild Dog is the largest wild canine in Africa, and has been prominent in early hunter-gatherer societies.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Clothing is extremely important in South Sudan. It communicates status, what tribe they belong to, and gender. It is traditionally very modest. Men typically wear jalabiya, which is a long, ankle length robe. Women typically wear extremely bright and vibrant fabrics.</p>]]></description>
