Huge swarms of desert locusts are wiping out food supplies for millions of people in East Africa. These locust creatures are large tropical grasshoppers that have power in flight. These grasshoppers are shredding apart villages and destroying thousands of hectares of farmland, and food sources for millions of people.

By Pat Brewer. February 11th 2020
https://www.greenleft.org.au/content/how-climate-change-driving-food-insecurity

These locust storms are ripping through mainly East Africa places such as: Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, and Yemen. The worst locust invasion in Africa in 25 years was recorded last July. The swarm emerged in Yemen and moved through Somalia and Ethiopia.

One recent swarm in Kenya was 40 kilometres long and 60 kilometres wide. That swarm would of had the capacity to devour the amount of food 82 million people rely on each day. But they not only eat crops, they devour animals’ food sources. This causes food insecurity because people are being left starved and helpless from grasshoppers destroying food sources and farmlands. To add to food sources being wiped out when farmlands are destroyed people are left with no job which means no income or money. Which makes it worse for them because they can’t pay for food.

https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.abc.net.au%2Fnews%2F2020-01-26%2Flocust-plague-in-east-africa-united-call-for-international-help%2F11901468&psig=AOvVaw0MtNLOF5SgZ1PxHp9rWPFO&ust=1582599757851000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAIQjRxqFwoTCLD7g9qZ6ecCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAO

These photo is showing a swarm of locusts in action
