This cartoon shows 3 men, one is working, 2 are sitting on his back. The two men sitting on his back are a clergy man and a nobleman. It shows that the noblemen and clergy men rely on the workingmen, and their support. (working and monetarily) The 1st and 2nd Estates didn't really pay their taxes, so the 3rd estate had to pay most of them, even though they worked the hardest and got paid the least amount of money. The cartoon also shows the lavish life of the 1st and 2nd Estates, while the 3rd Estate is in torn, old, dirty cloths. The 3rd estate had to pay their taxes to the 1st and 2nd estates, and the monarch. The 2 men from the 1st and 2nd estates are living off of the money from the man working, so he not only has to support his family, but the 1st, 2nd estates, and the monarch as well.

1. The most noticeable part of the picture is an old crippled man with tattered clothes (who represents the 3rd class) supporting two other men (2nd and 1st class) who are dressed fancily and aren't shown doing any work at all. The men sitting on the back of the older man are dressed fancily are shown smaller in size. It summarizes the situation that the different estates had before the revolution very well. It shows how hard the 3rd class works to support the government compared to the 1st and 2nd class.

1. This picture symbolizes how the first and second estates are being held up and supported by the third estate. You can tell that the man in the blue is wearing a cross, meaning he's part of the clergy and so he's in the first estate. The second estate, or the noblemen, are represented by the man in the red (due to the sword straddled onto his hip). We can tell that the man holding up the first two estates belongs to the third estate because he is shown hunched over doing manual labor (like a pesant).

2. This political cartoon represents how higher classed people such as the clergy men and noblemen rely on less important people such as the pesants who do all of the hard work in society. They also don't credit the third estate, eventhough they are the reason why the community is thriving.

Identify who/what idea the three figures in the cartoon illustrate.
The man with the people on his back is a representation of the third estate and he is holding up the first and second estates. It shows the first and second estates live lavish gluttonus lives.

2. How does this cartoon
summarize the problems of the economy before the French Revolution?

It shows how the lower classes in society has to support second and first. The man with the people on his back is larger in size and stronger, but worn down and weak from society. Notice, the man and red as a sword and it is just about to go throw the rabbit behind him. It shows the with power and rulers can do whatever they want, whenever, so you must be careful. The tool in the mans hand shows that he must work while funding and supporting the ruler.

1. & 2. This picture represents the three estates. The man that looks like he is holding everyone up is the third estate, the man in the middle represents the 1st estate because he is being held up, and the man on the far right represents the 2nd estate because he is holding up all of them but only a little. This cartoon summarizes the problems of the economy before the French Revolution because it shows the struggle between the first, second, and third estate. The third estate had to pay the most amount of money for taxes, and they did not make as much money. They are the ones that are really working to hold up the society even though they are struggling with it. The first and second estates have to pay almost no money for taxes. They are not really supporting the society very well and this can be shown in the cartoon. The facial expression of the man in the third estate does not look very happy which could represent the struggle that he has to go through with paying taxes and basically supporting the government. The first and second estate representatives look very content because they are barely working or not working at all. The first and second estate's clothes are also very nice and the third estate's clothes look ragged and worn.

The cartoon shows how the first and second estates are better off than the third. The person who represents the third estate is carrying the first and second, who are other two people, which could be showing how they have to pay a lot of taxes, therefore carrying their economy. Also, the first and second estates live better lives because the third has to work so hard to support them. And even after the third estate works so hard, they don't really benefit from all their work because they still don't have many rights.

1. In this picture you can see a man in horrible condition carrying two men on his back, I am guessing that the man who is holding the men is a peasant and the two guys on his back are a clergy and noble. This cartoon to me represents how so much of the problems of the country are put on the peasants or people in the third estate and even though they have to deal with the crap they are expected to not have a say on in how the country helps or worsens their life.
2. The picture shows that there economy is riding on the taxes of the poorer third estate and is clearly not working out. Meanwhile the the clergy and noble are having a good time living their best life tax free. The picture to me also shows that the the peasant man is kind of being intimidated by the noble man because he has a knife and its like saying no matter how hard they try and get ahead they won't be able to.

1. The guy who is struggling and holding the other two men represents the third estate and the other two men are the second and first estate. The two men on top of the third shows how the third estate was used by the second and first. It illustrates that the third has to do a lot of work and the second and first "piggyback" on that work and hardship to help themselves. In the picture the two men from the second and first estate have sheets of paper hanging out of their pockets which shows they owned money and had more than the third estate. It also looks like those pieces of paper have been taken from the third estates ripped shirt because the paper and shirt have the same texture and pattern (kind of) which shows that the second and first estate have gotten their wealth from the third.
2. The idea that the first and second have a lot of wealth and are using the third estate clearly expresses the amount of problems in the economy. People in the third estate had to work for everything they had and the nobles and clergymen had to do less work and used the people in the third estate to get money and then kept it for themselves.

This cartoon illustrates the way the first and second estates use the third for their luxury and enjoyment. The first and second estates are dressed lavishly, and they are fat. This shows they are living good, comfortable lives. However, they are riding on the dirty, skinny, exhausted third estate, who can barely support their weight. This shows how the third estate was struggling to live while the other estates didn't care at all and made it even harder for them.

1) This cartoon represents the inequality of the distribution of power within the three estates. The first and second govern with the luxury of an ally, the third is completely alone and unheard.
2) The cartoon isn't only a depiction of the inequalities of the General Estates; it shows the unfairness within the social classes, where peasants, merchants, and the vast majority of the population are forced to work and pay taxes to the higher classes, getting nothing in return.

This shows how the old man is suffering just to let two people live a rich life. The two people, who are the two estates, are living luxurious lives. But the old man on the bottom is really the one suffering. During the french revolution, this old man was the majority. The majority of the people are suffering from the first and second estates. An example of how the third estate is suffering from the first and second, is taxes. The third estate pays their taxes to the second and first, while the second is supposed to pay their taxes to the first. This is already pretty messed up. But the second estate does not pay their taxes, therefore getting a lot of money than what they are supposed oto get, and the first estate still get a litle bit of money. The problem is that the third estate is broke so they can't pay much money.

He looks like he is struggling, tired, and poor which is right with the 3rd estate because he is always working and paying taxes and debts. The person with the elaborate hat, colorful outfit, and sword is the monarch. This person is decorated like royalty, but he is still helping hold the other person. This person he is holding up would be the nobility or clergy because he is fancy looking and being held by both classes. This shows how the 2nd and 1st estate had financial power over the 3rd estate and the royalty because they received tax money, but never paid any. One wouldn't guess the Nobility and Clergy would receive more or the same amount of money as the Royals, but in the chaos of the French Revolution it was the case.
