We took the time to explore the choice board option that focuses on culturally responsive books. Our goal is to incorporate these books through school-wide reading activities next year. For example, we liked the book "Teach Us Your Name" by Huda Essa for a beginning of the year read aloud. This would allow us to start the year introducing our reading team to students and helping them to understand that they should take pride in their identity. We also discussed having several scheduled 'drop everything and read' dates throughout the year that would highlight culturally responsive books. -Wendy & Lauren
