Among the universes poorest individuals, 20 percent of each have some kind of disability.  Women and girls with disabilities are particularly vulnerable to abuse.  Persons with disabilities are more likely to be victims of violence or rape, and less likely to obtain police intervention, legal protection or preventive care.  Some 30 percent of street youths have some kind of disability, and in developing countries, 90 percent of children with disabilities do not attend school.

]]> 2016-03-11 14:58:00 UTC https://padlet.com/dleichtman/l91f28hd3jd0/wish/100476269 dleichtman https://padlet.com/dleichtman/l91f28hd3jd0/wish/100476643 A 2004 United States study found that just 35% of working age persons with incapabilities are truth be told working -- contrasted with 78% of those without inabilities.  In a recent report by Rutgers University, 33% of managers reviewed said persons with handicaps can not adequately perform the required occupation assignments.  The second most normal reason given for not employing persons with disabilities was the apprehension of unreasonable fear of costly special facilities.

This is important because it affects how they live and if they’ll be able to get a normal job or their dream job.
