This earthquake was associated with volcanic activity at Kilauea volcano
What you experienced: This was the biggest earthquake I've experienced. I was working in a laboratory in Kona when it occurred.

I recalled during the 2018 earthquake, the gym in my neighborhood was shaking. I also remember the event which happened on my street in March 26, 2018 when a strange 'cyclone' hit and damaged our neighbors' roofs. But just when I didn't think things in this world couldn't get any more intense or exciting, an earthquake struck two months after the cyclone event. What I Experienced: The Earthquake occurred right when I was waking up after my morning nap. The Earthquake occurred around noon and I started to nap around 9:00 AM.

What it Was Like: The shaking was very strong during earthquake, seeing that my house was on non-leveled surface, I was worried that the house might fall and collapse, which fortunately it didn't. What I experienced: I was standing in the kitchen talking stories with my mom when it happened. This earthquake is the biggest I remember experiencing.
What it was like: My mom and I were talking. She was staring at me weird and was like, "do you feel that?" The ground was shaking very slightly then a second later it got stronger. Things sounded like they could have fell but nothing did at all. I didn't know what to do so I panicked and held onto the fridge for balance. What I experienced: At the time, I was sitting on the edge of my bed with my laptop working on homework. My boyfriend had just sat down and started talking to me. He paused and gave me a worried look, I suddenly felt dizzy and lightheaded. My boyfriend always says that before there is an earthquake he gets this very odd feeling, almost between feeling scared and worried. I always feel lightheaded and queasy because I have a damaged equilibrium or balance disorder.

What it was like: The ground started rumbling and we felt as if the entire house was swirling around. It continued for about a minute to a minute and a half, almost 2 minutes. We felt a bit worried at first, as one usually does during an earthquake, but we also started to giggle a bit. My house is on stilts, but is still rather close to the ground, and is very stable. Because we also live in a kipuka in Kalapana, we have to be a bit cautious when there are strong earthquakes and pay attention to how they feel, but this one felt nothing like the 6.9 that cause Kilauea to erupt back in 2018. 

When that earthquake happened I was sitting at the end of the end of the road in Kalapana, Chain of Craters, working security. The ground rumbled so hard I could see the ripples in the ground under my feet. I could look up at see the plume that rose from the caldera.  At 11:48, I was at work in Naalehu. Our entire building swayed for a moment before trembling, and then finally violently shaking. Souvenirs fell off of our shelves and glass broke everywhere. My first instinct as barista was to pick our shot glasses off the espresso bar. We have broken far too many of those already. The locals didn't seem too worried. Most of us found a doorway to stand under. The customers however, were quite distressed and stood still for quit some time, waiting for a potential aftershock. What I experienced: I was a Junior in high school at the time when this massive earthquake hit. I was eating lunch with my best friend and my boyfriend at the time when all of a sudden we could see the lights starting to sway back and forth but very strongly. The ground started to shake and then students started to run out of the cafeteria onto the open field that was right outside. While this is all happening I was on the phone with my mom talking to her about the recent earthquake we had that same day. It was definitely a scary time, a lot of students were freaking out and parents were picking them up from school early. I think it's a great reminder that schools should practice more safety procedures when it comes to natural disasters because most of those students that day were not prepared. What you experienced? What was it like?

On May 4, 2018, it was my sophomore year I believe. On that particular day our school was having our May Day. Around 12:15pm it was lunch, but my friends and I needed to walk in the back parking lot to get something from her mom. We waited in the parking lot, as soon as my friends mother was about to turn her car around I seen a flock of birds flying from sea side going towards the Mauka direction. As the birds had passed a huge shaking accord, cars and our schools building had lifted up then dropped down. Car alarms were going off, everyone around me were like of shocked and started to call home. We were all told to head over to the schools pool where the faculty and staff could take role call, as well as decide if May Day was canceled. After being in the pool area, a few moments passed. I guess the earthquakes after shock rolled in and we everyone needed to evacuate from the pool to outside in the field. I remember hearing a lot of cell phones ringing, the principal was calling out names whose parents were picking them up. California had an earthquake almost weekly at times. But this last earthquake had me a little worried. We recently moved and it was the first earthquake I felt in this house. I was washing the breakfast dishes and it felt at first like someone ran into the house with a semi-truck. Then the shaking occurred. Dishes, glasses, and food fell off the shelves. A TV fell and broke, and the fish tank almost fell too. I chose to save that. It went on for what seemed like 3 minutes to me. I know it was not that long, but the house is an old plantation home and the foundation is not the best. It felt like the house was still shaking from the earthquake because it was still swaying a little. I am still walking uneasy afraid I might fall through or the house might collapse. I know it won't, but I was shocked at the damage that happened. I was busy cleaning and gathering myself to even think of taking pictures. And I was home alone too, so yeah it was a big one for me.

I do remember the 2018 earthquake as well. I know the damage was bad for that one, but I really did not feel it because I was in the ocean. By the time I swam to shore it was over.

I live in Honaunau on the big Island and the earthquake felt really big from where I was at. I was doing homework on the table while I seen everything in my house shaking. Nothing fell off any shelves or anything but the shake was still very strong! A second earthquake happened right after the first one and I immediately thought there were going to be more but there were only little after shocks. It was a huge scare for me as everywhere round the worlds been experiencing natural distaters off the wide! There was this one Earthquake that I vividly remember, the 2006 earthquake.

The Earthquake occurred on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at 7:01 and occurred around the northwest of the Big Island. The Magnitude was 6.7 with a depth of 38 Km.

During this earthquake, I was about 6 years old. This was the first and longest earthquake I've felt and experienced. I remember being in the kitchen with my grandma. At the time we had a huge glass round table, and when the earthquake started, my grandma pulled me under that GLASS table (but I didn't know what was going on). I remember seeing my moms candles falling off of shelves and stuff just falling over. The earthquake in my head seemed like it was going on forever. Every time I look back during that earthquake I laugh at how we hid under the most vulnerable spot. This was my first experience and most memorable. This is a normal occurrence and did not worry me much. Being that I live in an area with multiple structures nearby, I heard this earth quake before I felt it. Although this quake was far more powerful, there was another quake that frightened me more. It was an earthquake that happened in California some time in 2011. I believe it was only a 4.2 but the shaking lasted much longer and because there were more buildings nearby the rumble could be heard 2 seconds before the shake was felt. The aftershocks that followed for that quake could be felt for two days. I have experienced a lot of earthquakes in Japan. I will never forget the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011, which happened 10 years ago. I was living in Yokohama City, Kanagawa away from Tohoku. I was getting ready to go to night shift work when suddenly there was a huge sinking and at the same time a strong horizontal shaking started. The ornaments and mirrors fell over. I was very scared, but I headed for the night shift. The subway and trains were stopped and I finally got a cab to the hospital. While I was working, I was terribly sad to see the tsunami on TV. The images made me wonder if it was actually happening. Unfortunately, I could not get through to volunteer for disaster relief at that time. Every day on TV, I saw images of the tsunami damage. Since then people have thought deeply about disaster prevention.

It was interesting because right before the big one hit, I felt a smaller one. I thought that that was it but then the big one hit and I was shocked. I yelled for all of us to go outside, purely out of instinct, and was a little bit nervous about it. I've been in earthquakes where things are falling off shelves and breaking, so I wanted to get outside. I was shocked at how big it was once we looked it up. 6.2 is definitely a pretty big. I believe it is the biggest earthquake here since 2019. I was also concerned, or thinking about how we were just learning that lots of earthquakes can be a sign of more volcanic activity. What it was like:
I was 6 when it happened. I was home alone with my grandma. I was in the living room and everything started shaking, I could barely walk nor run. I attempted to run to my grandma for comfort and as I approached her door she slammed it in my face.
