How does your knowledge of left- and right-brain learning and Bloom's Taxonomy influence your teaching? What are you aware of now, after watching the videos, that you were not aware of before? **The videos are located on BlackBoard under "YouTube Videos."**

My knowledge of left and right brain learning influences my teaching in many ways. This knowledge allows me to know that if my student is really good at something in the left brain such as math or science, they may also strive in something like art or music, and visa cersa. It also allows me as a teacher to find ways to help my students better learn based on how they think and what they like. Overall it just gives me a better understanding of how to teach my students. I learned more about the levels of Blooms and how they work, which I already knew a little about, but it was interesting to learn more.
-AS

Our ability to imagine what something might be is far more powerful than knowing what is the case.

I took an entire class that emphasized Bloom's Taxonomy and we incorporated it into everything we did. It allows you to get a deeper look into how your students are learning. Are they just memorizing facts or do they really understand the concepts and can they apply it elsewhere? Left brain and right brain learning are important because some students will be more academically inclined and others will learn better through creativity. It is important that teachers understand both of those learning styles so they can better cater to the needs of their students.
-MB

I learned all about bloom's taxonomy in a course I took last semester. Bloom's Taxonomy helps you get a more in depth look at the way you teach and also the way your students are learning. It has helped me be better able to determine how the students I am working with learn best and what I can do to help them learn.

The video talked about being left brained and right brained. Left brain ed people are more logical as opposed to right brained which means they tend to be more creative thinkers. I learned that I am right brained and it also is going to help me when I am teaching students who are dominant on different sides of the brain.
- AD

Before watching these videos and being prompted to write about the two, I never thought of how right and left brain learning related to Bloom's but it is now very clear to me how they do seem to go hand in hand. I think it is cool that within Blooms there are many different levels of thinking while when studying the right and left brain, it is apparent that there are so many different aspects of learning. The way in which this lesson influences my teaching is that it is extremely important that as a teacher I never am teaching to just one specific audience. Every child learns differently, every child has different strengths, and every child has different weaknesses. When it comes down to it, all of those difference are okay and actually are extremely important.

-GR

Knowing that the left part of the brain is focused more so on the math and sciences, and that the right brain is more focused on the arts is interesting to me. Actually, when I was watching the video, I had the though, we should really be synchronizing our lessons to encorporate both the left and the right sides of the brain. The guy in the video touched on that a little bit. He talked about how certain people were known for using more of one side of the brain than the other, but he also pointed out that they used the left side as well. That sounds silly to point out, but, I feel like a lot of educators think that the left side should receive the most attention, which is not true. With this in mind, as well as Bloom’s taxonomy, my teaching will be focused on encouraging the students to use their higher level thinking skills to give them a well-rounded education, involving both the left and right sides of the brain. I was surprised to see that creativity and design were the highest level of thinking, back when I first learned about Bloom’s Taxonomy. It all makes sense, once you really look at what each level is talking about, why create would be the highest.
I was not aware the Einstein thought that creativity was the most important skill to have, but now I do. I think that that’s really cool, actually, because I always thought of him as a left side brained individual, but it’s enlightening to anyone who thinks that the right side isn’t as important, to know that Einstein believed this.

-BH

I have known for a long time about the left brain and right brain and what type of thinking occurs in each. However, until now I had not put much thought into how it, along with Bloom's Taxonomy, can influence my teaching. I feel that making lessons that not only engages both right and left brain, but also involves higher and lower order thinking, can bring out true potential in my students. Using the arts such as music along with the sciences enables the student to access both sides of their brain providing a more rounded learning experience.

Prior to watching the videos, I had already learned about their content, yet, watching them with teaching in mind, I feel I learned about them on a deeper and more meaningful level.

-EV

I had learned the differences about the left and right brain before, but I forgot exactly what they were for until I watched this video. The left side of the brain is where our logical thinking takes place. The right side of the brain is where our creativeness takes place. I had never thought of our daydreaming as being a part of the right side of the brain until it was mentioned in the video. I also think the speaker in the video made a very good point about having an intelligent right side and left side and why they are both important. Leonardo Divinci designed the helicopter. This was being performed through the left side of his brain. On the other side, he was creating the Mona Lisa with his artistic ability.

For my future classroom, I want to include many arts and music based activities. I think as teachers it is extremely valuable to understand how students learn best. Either through the arts or cognitively. I think involving both the cognitive side of the brain and creative side of brain will help create optimal success for students.

-MGB

The left brain is focused on numbers, equations, facts. The right side of the brain is creative with art, drawing, music. In Bloom's Taxonomy steps are
creating, evaluating, analyzing, applying, understanding, and remembering. This can effect anyone's teaching. You can create a lesson plan that involves Bloom's steps to make sure the students understand the lesson. It is an in extensive lesson plan. It involves both multiple ways of learning which will help students learn because students do learn in different ways.
The information provided opens up new opportunities to teach and get involves more with your students and the way they learn.

-GH
