Coding involves the form by which LTM's are stored - the means by which information is shaped into representation of memories. Coding information will be stronger (more retrievable) the deeper the level of processing. Coding in LTM Is mainly semantic though research shows visual and acoustic code.

- duration of memory's in LTM is largely dependant on lifespans. Items have longer duration in long term memory if originally well coded.🤗 Information in LTM doesn't have to be continually rehearsed to be retained.

Bahrick showed 400 participants ages between 17-74 years old. He set then photos and lists of names and asked them to identify ex school mates. Those who had left school less than 15years ago identified 90% of people compares to less than 70% of faces after leaving school for 50years.

The capacity of LTM is assumed to be ✨limitless✨ as research has not been able to determine a finite capacity. This is because it's very difficult to research the capacity of LTM. 🌚

This does support the theory of Atkinson and shiffon, because it represents that many elderly people have detailed childhood moemoires which is proven as most of people that had left school over 50 years ago could identify 70% of their class mates. This shows that LTM may be problematic to access but the memory's are always stored. Which proves the retrieval and transfer points on the model.
