In 1933, Adolf Hitler's Nazi Party won the federal election and Hitler was appointed Chancellor of the Reich.

For her thirteenth birthday on 12 June 1942, Anne received an autograph book, bound with red-and-white checkered cloth and with a small lock on the front. Anne decided she would use it as a diary, and had named it Kitty.

Upon arrival at Auschwitz, the SS forcibly split the men from the women and children, and Otto Frank was separated from his family.
Anne was forced to strip naked to be disinfected, had her head shaved, and was tattooed with an identifying number on her arm.
The exact dates of Anne's death was not recorded.
