Jenny
Dionne
Benjamin
Shi Wei

Questions:
1. What type of food insecurity (lack of food or lack of nutrition) is the most prevalent in Nigeria?

-Lack of food
People in Nigeria are mainly not hardworking and only farm exports that are of high yield from time to time. This causes fluctuations in crop prices where one is much higher than the others. As a result this breaks the food market and people are unable to afford grains leading to shortage of food.

2. What factors foster food insecurity in Nigeria? [Possible answers: dry season, lack ofgovernment support, price instability]
-Lack of government support: Land Tenure
Government does not supply locals with financial assistance therefore they do not have the machineries to self-sustain and farm crops, leading to low- yield crops and as a result food insecurity.

-Price Instability
Since there is a difference in preference in crops, the price of some crops are more expensive than others. This causes fluctuation in prices of crops.

3. What conclusions can you draw about the role of government in ensuring food security from this video?
-The government put in very little effort to ensure food security as they did not control the food prices, causing the prices to rise and less people in Nigeria can afford the food. The government also did not assure the people in Nigeria that there is sufficient amount of food for them. The government had not considered importing food in as they are afraid that it will result in certain food price inflation.

4. Which component of the hunger issue are we able to effectively solve? Why do you think so?
-Increase in smallholder productivity and income
Government can help by providing subsidies for them so that the smallholder farmers
are able to invest in technology to increase their productivity. This includes This in turn increases
their income as they are able to sell a greater amount of food and generate more
income.

5. Which components of the hunger issue still pose a challenge? Why do you think so?
-One of the components that still pose a challenge is the zero loss or waste of food. Nowadays, many people do not have the awareness of the consequences of wasting food, thus they continue wasting food. Therefore, by 2030, it is not guaranteed that zero loss or waste of food will be achieved.
-Another component is to achieve the goal of 100% access to adequate food all year round. It is still a challenge for many countries as some areas still have insufficient food due to high prices of food and low disposable income in families. Thus, by 2030, 100% access to
