Example #1 of a Core Belief that is demonstrated by St. Clare:

"God respects our freedom" is one example of a Core Belief that is demonstrated by St. Clare. St. Clare grew up wealthy and had the ability to have a completely different path in life compared to the one she chose. The way she chose her own path and how she was devoted to her choice demonstrates her free will, and how God does not have a plan for us- but only aspirations for us.

"God is good" is another example of a Core Belief that is demonstrated by St. Clare. This means that God's love is constant and unconditional, and that God can only do good. St. Clare demonstrated this Core Belief when she was in ill health and still continued to promote the growth of her order until her death. This shows how she did not ever blame God for her illness, but merely excepted it and continued to pursue what she loved.

As a young girl, Clare dedicated herself to prayer. At 18, she heard St. Francis of Assisi preach during a Lenten service in the church of San Giorgio and asked him to help her live according to the Gospel. On Palm Sunday, Clare left her father's home and went to the chapel of the Porziuncula to meet with Francis. While there, Clare's hair was cut off and she was given a plain robe and veil in exchange for her rich gown. Clare joined the convent of the Benedictine nuns of San Paulo, near Bastia, under Francis' orders. When her father found her and attempted to force her back into his home, she refused and professed that she would have no other husband than Jesus Christ.
