Constructing this session provided an opportunity to reflect on the basics of what blended learning is and to provide structures to helps teachers look at their own classrooms. There were parts during the constructions I feel I had to take a step back and realize I was not practice what I was preaching or I was encouraging running before learning how to walk.

This skills matter because as teachers we need to keep in mind our lesson structures and content through the eyes of a new learner. We sometimes take fro granted our expertise and own experiences when creating learning opportunities.

The session was helpful, in particular my reflection on my "opening". In previous years I have wanted to grow in the "work time" area and developed skills to do so. Now I am shifting my focus to restructuring my opening to "hook" in my students, connect the daily content to their lives (within 5-7 minutes), foster class community & jump start their engagement!

We created incremental goals that will help us to measure some improvement in the area of engagement. I feel like this ties in well with the POG goal I have for this year, and it has given me some great ideas for future lessons! This skill (engaging students) is essential in having students become committed, lifelong learners.

As a team we started reflecting with our start without a start. We discussed working with various content to identify an IDI lesson across content areas. As educators reflecting on our practice, strategies, and getting ideas from colleagues helps to deepen our cognitive abilities and broaden our POG skills personally and professionally.

Reflection began as soon as we started the discussion on where we were in relation to student centered learning. Being able to see and hear the successes of others is exciting and encourages growth and self-improvement. As educators, we owe it to ourselves and students to utilize best practices for student learning.

When students hit a road block,, I ask them, what can you do to make the outcome be positive? How can you work towards self-advocacy tofind out information that could help you solve a personal problem with a friend, co-student, teacher or family member?

Q1: The whole learning circle was focused on reflection and introspection. Growth was promoted by channeling this reflection component into manageable, achievable goals.
Q2: Counter-question: how the Charles Dickens are supposed to expect students to build upon their knowledge, grow as learners/individuals, or reflect on their own successes/failures if we do not engage in this process ourselves?

I loved seeing the examples of actual classroom lessons with blended learning. I feel that ease of access to resources will make staff more likely to implement when they can see the possibilities in their content area. Our presenters did a great job explaining the topic, providing opportunities to dialogue and reflect, and giving small tasks to apply to daily instruction.

Engagement--
I was able to reflect on what makes a good hook, including ways to jazz up traditional warmups. I was able to think actively about how to use the LEARN model for a mini lesson on harder concepts like federalism, I was able to think about how to use PADLET leveling and sentence starters/guided questions to help students be better reflectors, and how to map my POG skill to specifically align to what standards I am teaching. Engagement matters because even with good classroom management many students may become passive learners which allows little or no learning which makes it difficult--buyin is so important as is the ability to put forth rigorous assignments that both challenge students and give them the ability to collaborate.

Browsing through resources and examples helped me recognize that I am not a novice (I've tried a few before); however I can grow in learning how to make new meaningful learning experiences for my students using the tools I am familiar with as well as new ideas. I know I can improve on adding more student-centered learning in areas where the students can have more control and choice in their learning. As an educator, it helps me to avoid remaining stagnant in the ways I am used to.

Now I am shifting my focus to restructuring my opening to "hook" in my students, connect the daily content to their lives (within 5-7 minutes), foster class community & jump start their engagement!

This session made me think about what I have done so far, but also made me stop and reflect about what more can I put in place to help students and me change and grow together. When students hit a road block,, I ask them, what can you do to make the outcome be positive? How can you work towards self-advocacy tofind out information that could help you solve a personal problem with a friend, co-student, teacher or family member?

At the beginning, middle and end of today's session I was able to reflect on where I fit along the continuum of student-centered learning. It helps me to think about how I am growing as a learner. We want our students to grow as learners too, so it is important to provide the time for them to do that in the moment.

The opportunity to create our messy web of words, connections, and questions with our colleagues gave us a chance to see what we're doing as individuals and as a school and where we can go in the future. It gave all the members of the group a voice and ways to connect with one another with our individual "craft".

Dom Rocchi answers some questions
Q1: The whole learning circle was focused on reflection and introspection. Growth was promoted by channeling this reflection component into manageable, achievable goals.
Q2: Counter-question: how the Charles Dickens are supposed to expect students to build upon their knowledge, grow as learners/individuals, or reflect on their own successes/failures if we do not engage in this process ourselves?

During our first activity, I had an opportunity to reflect on my own practice and to be open-minded to new ideas. This skill is important as it allows learners - of any age and stage - to assess where they are and where they need to go.

I thought about how I can personalize learning more in the math setting. I'm hoping to implement some station rotations in my class for an upcoming lesson. The station rotations will create smaller learning communities

Having the opportunity to discuss knowledge and personal thinking has helped me to re-e
valuate what I hope to gain from a student-centered classroom. Speaking with Bryan about single and double loops highlighted my need to focus on the learning targets/goals I have for my students.

The opportunity to create our messy web of words, connections, and questions with our colleagues gave us a chance to see what we're doing as individuals and as a school and where we can go in the future. It gave all the members of the group a voice and ways to connect with one another with our individual "craft".

Researching interdisciplinary curriculum is a very broad topic that should be looked at since our various subjects can be connected and intertwined more than we realized. Combining lessons between the disciplines can lead to a broad view of the educational and real world for students in the future.

Instructors are excellent! They are very patient, kind and willing to answer any questions we may have. I enjoyed the Blended Learning activity with the markers. It gave us time to work and collaborate together.

I reflected on my experiences by seeing that we have all done some interdisciplinary work in small ways in the past, but realizing that this is a space to really define what interdisciplinary instruction is and learn how to be very intentional with our planning.

When given the opporunity to reflect on the Definition, Characteristices, Examples and Non Examples, I relfected on my expereinces. The Teacher Move Goal made it easy to advocate for myself and establish ways to grow. This skill matters because we are making connections with our students and making learning relevent.

In learning more about what blended learning actually is, I realized that a lot of things that I think are examples of "blended learning" in my classroom are actually just incorporating technology/choice/etc. but not actually blended learning.

This matters because I will be able to elevate areas of my teaching to the blended learning level which will benefit me as a teacher and my students.

I was able to reflect on what ways I am currently using blended learning, when given time to check out all the different digital resources. It gave me a chance to see what's different and how it can improve what I am already doing. It also gave me new ideas for future units.

I reflected on my experiences by recalling personal examples and non-examples of interdisciplinary learning. I will continue to advocate for my growth by interacting with the resources provided and finding my own. This skill matters because learning is a continual process and something that should be modeled for our students.

Caitlin Wyatt: I reflected on previous experiences with Interdisciplinary Instruction in terms of how it helped my students and I grow as learners as well as the limitations we faced. Revisiting these experiences with new colleagues made me excited to try it again. This matters because it keeps me fresh and ensures that I'm trying to better my teaching to challenge my students.

When going back through the tic-tac-toe challenge I found myself reexamining techonological resources which I had seen before but never used or given real though to using. While looking at the 4 A's, I saw a lot of room for growth and how to think about using technology.
