A Letter to My Teacher by Deborah Hopkinsons, is a letter written by a student to her past grade 2 teacher. The student struggled with reading and was always getting into trouble. Her teacher was always patient with her and gave her an extra task to read to their class pet to help her practice her reading. The student was grateful for how great this teacher was and reminds us how one good teacher can make all the difference in a student's life.

“Edwin Speaks Up” written by April Stevens & Sophie Blackall starts on the day before baby Edwin’s birthday where the ferret Finnemore family heads to the supermarket for birthday supplies. Mrs. Finnemore keeps misplacing things like her keys, pocketbook, shopping cart and forgets the main ingredient, sugar, for the cake as she has five young kids to deal with. Throughout the chaos, baby Edwin speaks what seems like gibberish, but his words are actually the clues that solve each problem. In the end, he saves the day by reminding his mom of the sugar and the story shows the bright minds of young kids, and shows the joyful mess of family life.

My book is called "That's Hockey" by David Bouchard and illustrated by Dean Griffiths. I recommend this book for kids who like to read about friendship, fun, and hockey, of course. The main character, Etienne, invites his cousin to play street hockey with him and his friends. The book reflects the fun and enjoyment the kids experience while playing hockey with friends. Etienne's cousin turns out to be the best player out of all the kids and the book ends with a fun twist/surprise!

Spirit Bear and Children Make History is an excellent book that helps students understand the inequalities Indigenous students face in education and welfare services. It introduces kids to Jordan's Principles and concepts such as Truth and Reconciliation in a digestible way. Even though kids are small, their voices can still be loud and make a difference for others.

One, a pickup truck driver, is missing, and the boy ends up finding him and helping him out. It's a beautiful depiction of friendship and community - and it features different kinds of trucks. It's probably better for younger kids, but it's just a joy to read.
