1. Collaborative Spaces -
Librarian Self-Report Form I -
IV. Environment
The DES library does not "look" like a children's library. The space has been used as a meeting area for campus and other admin. The furniture is adult sized and arranged in one big area.
FRL GOAL #1 ...
The librarian will create child-sized spaces for casual reading throughout the library by adding area rugs, kid oriented furniture in small spaces, and seating for small group / small teaching collaboration. This goal is aligned with ...

2. Students as Creators -
Librarian Self-Report Form I -
I. Teaching and Information Literacy
The DES library does not have a dedicated space for "student self-directed collaboration [for] real world problem-solving." Since the library storage room is used for the counselor's office, the storage items are gathered in the circulation area.
FRL GOAL #2 ...
The librarian will clear storage boxes, etc from the circulation area and re-purpose that space as a "Creation & Innovation Station" for student self-directed collaboration [for] real world problem-solving.
The librarian will establish a dedicated space that incorporates the ISTE Standards for Students that overlap with the Next Generation Science Standards as they align with digital literacy and Future Ready Goals so as to [From the T-TESS] "encourage the success of all students as effective creators and users of ideas and information."

3. Community Partnerships -
Librarian Self-Report Form I -
V. Communication & Public Relations
An analysis of the DES Library collection revealed that the average age of the collection is 16 years and 30% of the titles need updating with an approximate cost of $52,000.00. The allocated budget is less than 10% of this figure. The only way to improve this situation is to reach out to the broader community for support.
FRL GOAL #3 ...
The librarian will establish a "Support Our Library" Sponsorship and Advocacy Group with area businesses, corporations, and numerous benefactors to acquire funding, book donations, tangible and human resources to "build up" the library's status and rapport among the greater community as DES Library stake holders by meeting face to face with local managers and by reaching out via email and other communication methods to ask for support. Home Depot has already given significant discounts on merchandise for the library and has pledged to help with raw materials for the maker space. The Dragon's Lair Bookstore has pledged to sponsor the DES Library starting in January, 2018 . An online campaign for book donations begins Oct. 10, 2017 through Bound to Stay Bound's Support Our Library program. On that day, the librarian will email the link on school letterhead to area corporations and businesses asking for their support. The link to this campaign is already present on the Librarian's Website and the librarian will formerly present the campaign to campus faculty on or after Oct. 10.
All the goals described within the Future Ready Librarian Matrix will be addressed to some extent during the 2017-2018 school year, but the three above will be the targeted focus for this year.
These goals are intended to contribute to the improvement of academic performance of all students on campus either directly or indirectly.
NOTE:
The assessment of the current "State of the DES Library" according to the Texas School Library Standards is "Below Standard."
The previous librarian reported this in the End of Year Report and I have already communicated the same to the campus principal.
I have determined a three year plan to raise the status of the DES Library to an "Acceptable" standard by the end of the 2019-2020 school year.
