In the movie, they were showing children pictures of different people they should know. The children were more familiar with fast food mascots than historical figures. Are schools encouraging students to make healthier decisions? The school in Appleton with the "troubled students" is serving healthier food, which costs about the same as the unhealthy food options other schools have. Most of the McDonalds he visited were not sharing the nutrition facts in a way that was easily viewed by the customer or was not available at all. Who is to blame in this situation, McDonald's for not sharing the information or the customer for not asking for that information?

In the movie, they stated that 60% of the population is suffering from obesity. One of the doctors wanted him to quit this experiment because his liver was in real trouble. Nutritionists were called and recommended to only have fast food once a month or only if you are on a deserted island with that being on the only option. It was then recommended that he shouldn't eat fast food for a year after this experiment. The people they interviewed on the street commented that they frequently eat fast food, and often don't think about the calorie count or negative health effects that come with eating fast food. It was crazy to see the before and after blood tests especially in regards to his weight, liver, and cholesterol.

Something is different with our nutrition, we eat out about 40% of our meals. Fast food is something new. It is fair to point the finger at McDonald's because in a lot of ways they are part of the problem. They lure in young children with indoor playgrounds, happy meal toys, and with Ronald McDonald himself. It is interesting to see how much McDonald's has changed since this documentary because they no longer have a supersize option as well as all the nutritional facts are posted on the menu. It seems like they have put it into the customers' hands to make the better choices with offering fried and grilled chicken, fruit sides, and salads.

Recess is being cut out to prepare for the tests schools are giving. We will have "fat readers." In the film, they mentioned after the No Child Left Behind Act was signed that we were the fattest nation and now we were easily becoming the stupidest as well. They stated that the only state that requires physical education is also the fattest, which is Illinois. I was confused by this because after eighth grade you were no longer required to take P.E. if you were in a varsity sport, so the majority of students were able to get out of gym class. To me, it is difficult to agree with the statements about obesity and cigarette usage being related. You don't need tobacco to survive, but you do need food.

The physical education program in Madison discussed how schools and communities are so quick to fundraise for the science classes but rarely for physical education. Soda companies say how they are contributing to education when in reality they are really just putting soda machines into schools. The money being put into the machines is from the students or money that the parents have given their children. Schools have actually banned soda because they don't care about the money it could potentially bring in, they care about their students' health. I wonder if this rule includes bringing soda from home, and if it does, then how do they enforce this rule?
