The African mask or enchanted mask is a carved mask made out of wood

when worn it is told to give you mystical powers many years ago and

many people believed this but it didn't work. enchanted mask makers

these days use animals to model for the mask unlike many years ago

when they used human features like eyes and head shape. some famous

mask names are:

Baule mask Biombo mask Goma mask Kota mask Lulua mask

Lwalwa mask Senufo mask Teke mask Bwa mask Dan mask

Kwele mask Ligbi mask Pende mask Punu mask Woyo mask

And the Yohure mask.

An African mask creator named Julian akandas has made many masks and

sculptures and my favourite mask is the enchanted bird.

Juliana akandas was born april 13, 1969, her favourite piece is the akuabaa

doll, she has three children.

A significant piece of art I like is the enchanted bird which is a very delicate piece of art

that I think is very detailed. some information about it is that it is beleived to possess mysterious powers, the enchanted bird is never seen during the day. whoever glimpses it during daytime will be empowered with fortune. Juliana akandas transforms a legend from the bwa tribe into a colourful mask design which ill get a picture onto padlet. The elements of this type of art is they must have a sturdy hand or they could muck up the carving and they also need to be able to paint sturdily so you get a perfect mask. some of the main features on masks are the little details that artists add to there mask like eye dints and animal facial features.

Even though an artist can be very good anything could go wrong like they could mess up the painting or carving and than have to start again. I think I would describe this an a fun but sometimes funny activity/job. Sometimes I think of funny things like a 25 inch man wearing a mask as big as his body :D. The qualities that I think makes it a success is that the mask needs to be at leats a head size or bigger and it has to be detailed in painting and carving. This work is original because even I carve thins like sticks. this piece of work makes me feel happy because I love carving and painting. the artist was trying to tell a story through a mask that she made. a criteria I would make is going to be a criteria were I will add questions like what do you think about the painting and carving on the mask? so they need to think.

The most challenging part was when I had to paint it because I always messed it up.

The most fun part was when I put the paper Mache on it because I got paint on my hands and than I put them under the drier to dry the glue.

The hardest part was when I had to paper Mache the coloured sun on the head.

I chose this position because it is original and affective.

The message im trying to convey is to make people think of my mask as a sun because I based the head dress as one.

The art elements used in my art are

1. To use bright colours for the head dress,

2. To use dark colours for the main area of the mask.

3 to add less detail to my mask so it looks original.

the art conventions used in my art are,

1. One art convention used is the slow streaking when I paint so I get straight lines.

2. I also used the paper Mache placing one way than the other way once or twice at the end.

The descriptive words I would use to describe my work are,

1. The paper Mache is very well presented

2. The mask looks very creative and is very artistic.

the new skills and ideas ive learnt through this piece are,

1. How to paint straight.

2. How to paper Mache affectively.
