- in theory each of the arms of government are separate but some may say there is an overlap. They are all separate in the ways that they run by different people and set-up in different ways/ There are many in which that are separate according to their roles and responsibilities. the judiciary is set in courts, the executive enforces rules and the legislative makes the rules. This has been set up according to Baron de Montesquieu's book and theory.

Australia doesn't exactly have a complete separation of powers for example they overlap with their roles because a Prime minister being part of Executive it is also in parliament another example is that high court judges and Prime ministers are controlled by the Governor general, that is part of both parliament and executive arm of government. Ministers of government must be elected from parliment.
