• Italy (switched sides in 1915, leaving the Central Powers)

• United States (joined in 1917)

• Japan (joined in 1914, fighting Germany in the Pacific)

• Serbia, Belgium, Romania, Greece, Portugal, Montenegro and others

• Rifles – The main weapons for soldiers, like the Mauser (Germany) and Lee-Enfield (UK).

• Machine Guns – Fired many bullets quickly, making attacks very dangerous. Examples: Maxim (Germany/UK) and Vickers (UK).

• Pistols – Used by officers and pilots, such as the Luger (Germany) and Colt 1911 (USA).

2. Artillery (Big Cannons)

• The most destructive weapons of the war, used to bomb enemy trenches.

• Examples: Big Bertha (Germany) and Paris Gun (Germany), which could shoot very far.

3. Poison Gas

• First used by the Germans in 1915.

• Types: Chlorine gas, mustard gas, and phosgene gas.

• Caused blindness, burns, and suffocation.

4. Tanks

• Used for the first time in war to cross trenches.

• The first tank was the Mark I (UK) in 1916.

5. Airplanes

• At first, they were used only for spying, but later they got machine guns.

• The most famous pilot was Manfred von Richthofen (The Red Baron, Germany).
