         <description><![CDATA[<p>IGAD is a Muslim or Islamic mosque. Islam is a monotheistic religion that originates in Mecca, modern day Saudi Arabia.</p><p>Islam was founded by the Prophet Muhammad, who they believe is the last in the line of prophets.</p><p>Muslims believe that there is only one God, and Muhammad was his messenger. Once in their lifetime, if they are capable, Muslims are required to make the pilgrimage to Mecca. The whole religion is centered around their beliefs in the one and only God, Allah. </p><p>They pray five times per day, facing Mecca. Another Muslim practice is they donate part of their income to people in need. During Ramadan, all healthy Muslims won't eat or drink while the sun is in the sky.</p><p>IGAD was established in April, 1978. It has continued to grow following that and has lots of different activities, prayers, and school registration for kids.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Congregation Shir Tikvah is a Judaism congregation site. Judaism is a monotheistic religion, closely related to both Christianity and Islam.</p><p>Judaism was founded by the biblical patriarch, Abraham.</p><p>Some of the Jewish basic beliefs are that there is only one God, and he rewards good behaviors and deeds, while punishing bad actions and deeds. One of the most important Jewish practices is to set aside time each day to study the Torah. Another is to recite prayers every day, as well on Holy Days and Sabbath.</p><p>Jewish people believe that their Messiah will come one day, but hasn't come yet. The symbol of Judaism is the Star of David, a six pointed star</p><p>Congregation Shir Tikvah began to grow by attracting new members from other areas. Today, members from throughout metropolitan Detroit are served there.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Mumunsa temple is a Buddhist Zen center. Buddhism is a religion based off of the teachings of the Buddha. It's one of the world's largest religions and originated in India.</p><p>Buddhism's founder is Siddhartha Gautama, or the Buddha. He was a wandering teacher who became enlightened and taught others the same.</p><p>Buddhist people believe that to achieve enlightenment you have to meditate, have good behaviors, and do spiritual and physical labor. They believe that the human life is one of suffering.</p><p>Some of their main practices are to not kill, to not steal, to not lie, and to not consume alcohol.</p><p>Buddhists don't believe in a god that created everything. In Buddhism there is no single holy book, or text. Their Four Noble Truths are the truth of suffering, the truth of the cause of suffering, the truth of the end of suffering, and the truth of the path that leads to the end of suffering.</p><p>At the Mumunsa Zen Center, they have meetings in both Korean and English, it's one of the centers that teach the Korean Buddhism of Jogye </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The University Presbyterian Church is a Christian church. Christianity is a monotheistic religion and is based mainly off beliefs that relate to the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.</p><p>Christianity was founded by Jesus. The Bible tells about his life and his teachings. </p><p>Christians believe that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of God, and was sent to Earth to save humans from their sins.</p><p>Christian practices include baptism, marriage rites, and the religious education of children.</p><p>Some of Jesus's important teachings are to love God, love your neighbor as yourself, and to love your enemy. </p><p>The University Presbyterian Church is seeking to serve their God with open minds, and is an inclusive congregation. Today, some of their main leaders are John Basset, Sue Cleveland, and Joan Savage.  </p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Bharatiya Temple is a Hinduism mandir or temple. Hinduism is a monotheistic religion; though there are multiple gods, they are all forms of the Divine Brahman.</p><p>There is no single founder of Hinduism. It's origin is instead found in lots of sacred texts with rules regarding daily activities, rituals, pilgrimage, and worship.</p><p>Hindus believe that the entire universe is God's and everything in the universe is God. Their practices include devotion, worship, sacrificial rites, meditation, and yoga.</p><p>Hinduism is one of the oldest and most complex religions. It's origins date back more than 5,000 years ago in India.</p><p>In the early seventies, Hindus dreamed to set up an organization in the Metro Detroit area. They met to discuss the possibility of setting up a Hindu temple. Now, they teach Bhagvad Gita just like it was taught 5,000 years ago</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Sikh Gurdwara is a Sikh worship place. Sikhism is the world's fifth-largest relgion. The name Gurdwara means "the doorway to the Guru". Gurus were the teachers of the Sikhs.</p><p>The founder of Sikhism is Guru Nanak. He was born in Punjab, South Asia. The people who started to follow his teachings became known as Sikhs.</p><p>Sikhs believe that there is one eternal God and in rebirth and karma. This makes their religion a way of life, and in every action they should remember God. </p><p>Some of their practices are praying three times a day, at anytime of the day or night. However, most commonly before sunrise and sunset, and then before bed. More practices are to meditate on God, and to engage in family life.</p><p>Sikhs advocate equality, tolerance for other religions, social justice, and service to humanity.</p><p>As for the Sikh Gudwara in Detroit, in 1915 and 1931, attempts were made to create a standard Rehat, or code. This involved several Sikh scholars who worked to produce the current version.  </p>]]></description>
