The other accessible beach through San Carlos is Playa Ensenada. Wide and beautiful, Ensenada is frequented mainly by fishermen and local children. Anyone who makes the trip here will likely have areas of the beach to themselves and can enjoy the waters off the shores. A new resort under construction along the beach might change the dynamics of this place in the years to come, but for now, it's an untouched gem off the coast of Panama.

San Carlos is located along the Inter-American Highway, 11 km west of Coronado and 27 km east of Santa Clara. It is a typical Panamanian town, full of small restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries, and at least one bar. Apart from a single hotel and few basic services, San Carlos mainly serves as a stopping point for two beautiful beaches. The most popular is El Palmar beach, just west of town. Palmar has gentle waves, with waves that are best at high tide. A nearby surf school provides accommodation, lessons, and rental equipment, making El Palmar beach a great place for beginners. Those who just want to relax on the beach will be equally pleased, as Palmar has magnificent stretches of sand and an incredible colorful sunset.
