(Gru and Dr. Nefario demand the minions build them a rocket ship out of leftover scraps they bought with selling the furniture in their underground lab.

All the while Gru and Dr. Nefario sit back and watch the minions labor.

it is clear that just looking at this picture taken from the second movie in the franchise, the minions have had enough labor. so they have Gru (their current owner) do the dirty work for them.

Context: Gru and the side character Lucy Wilde, are tasked by the captain of the "Anti-Villan League to spy on different stores inside a mall to find a very toxic, infectious substance located inside of that mall.

so, Gru and Lucy found a suspect, break into his mexican restaurant, and have the minions be their getaway driver. treating them like a butler.

Gru gets kidnapped by an old-timey villan crew by the name of "The Vicious 6." where Gru has the chance to make one phone call for help. So he calls his "Minions" to come save him. further relying on the Minions to obey every command when said so.

in this scene, the main characters: Kevin, Stuart, and bob are all locked into a dungeon for not going along with the main villain's plan, so they are tortured, and made fun of for their bodies, skin, and clear language/accent barrier.

during the prison-break montage, the minions are shown to be feared upon by their skin color, and the overall power they have against the majority of the opposite skin color. Creating a stereotypical image of: "all minions are bad and scary."

in the movie, the minion is neglected into going into a vending machine in Gru's "getaway" house. no one achnoledges his existence and is trapped in that house forever.
