The cast is deliberately evenly split in female and male roles.  In most plays,TV shows and films, most of the combat roles go to men; however in She Kills Monsters every female role gets to fight. This deliberate choice shows that women can display strength and act in traditional  “masculine” roles and still be feminine. Another stereotype that is challenged is the idea of nerds being only male. They play shows plenty of nerdy girls as well as boys who are happy being nerds.
