What I Already Know About The Israeli/Palestinian War

This Israeli/Palestinian war has been going on for decades but has recently gotten a lot more serious. I know that they had shared land for a while, ever since the Israelis settled there, and that the Gaza Strip has gotten smaller throughout the years, taking a massive decline in the past couple of months. I know that this is becoming more and more of a genocide than a war as Israel has a multitude of defensives and military and Gaza has almost none. Israel has been bombing Gaza for over a month, almost nonstop. I know that on October 7th, Hamas bombed part of Israel as an act of terrorism and took hostages. I also know that Israel is bombing refugee camps and hospitals, almost everywhere in Gaza, killing hundreds, because they want their hostages back, although they bombed the place they were told they were being held. I know that the death toll is over 20,031 over 50 days. That is around 401 people dead each day.

This topic interests me because there are so many people being killed every day, for a crime they did not commit, for no crime at all. I want to be educated and help as much as possible, I want people to be able to go to a hospital, a safe place, and not have to worry about being bombed. I want children to be able to be children, to have their childhood back. I think this is so important to learn and talk about because silence only helps the oppressor.

This source does a great job of looking at the situation from both sides, maintaining a sort of equal bias. It brings up accurate points and recognizes that both sides did bad things, even if one did more than the other. It provides significant dates and events that have happened and holds Israel accountable for the killings of hundreds of civilians. It also holds Palestine accountable for the events on October 7th but also tells the reader how much they have lost. This information is reliable as when talking about a controversial topic like this, it brings up what both sides are arguing to each other to remain neutral.

This source goes more into the bombing of Gazas largest hospital which was a place of refuge for Palestinian people and Israel's statements on it. This source also gives good insight on America's statements and who they are backing and how they deal with it. It shows what the brutal aftermath of the bombing was like and how much it affected the people of Gaza. They provide quotes, pictures, and many sources. This article was provided by The New York Times, which has a slightly left leaning bias, but this article does a good job at remaining objective. It states only the facts, not trying to persuade its audience to either side.

This source goes into the outcome of this war and how it was always bound to happen. This article was provided by TIME magazine which is left leaning, but Mouin Rabbani, the author, does a great job at staying objective. He brings up points from both sides and brings up ways the world can help this conflict. This source provides Israel/Palestine history and events that are important for this topic not a lot of sources bring up. It brings up the political blockages from peace as well as the pride blockages. This source remains objective, but you can understand the author just wants peace in these areas.

After researching more about this war, and from what I already knew, I know that if people continue to stay indifferent about this, the death of Gaza civilians will continue to rise at horrifying rates, and their population will continue to decline until there are an alarmingly low number of Palestinians. These people have no defenses, they have no protection, and Israel is continuing to bomb refugee areas for no reason. Palestinians are being massacred every day. Fathers, mothers, teenagers, grandmothers and grandfathers, children, BABIES. Newborn babies are being killed before they can even open their eyes. This is why we need to do everything we can. We need to continue to boycott major corporations such as McDonald's, Starbucks, and Disney as they are all funding this horrifying genocide. Every dollar counts. We need to show solidarity. The best solution in this situation is to get Israel to stop attacking, get educated, and donate. Do as much as you can. Israel has invaded their space and now is trying to drive the people of Gaza to extinction. Protest, boycott, spread awareness. This cannot be ignored.
