         <title>Guilt and Shame</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Oedipus, a strong leader, loving husband, and father has met his fate at the very end of the story. Even though Oedipus came off as someone who anyone could look up to, it all quickly deteriorated.&nbsp; In Oedipus the King, Oedipus knows that he is given a destiny, however he doesn't know he's living it and neither does his "wife" Jocasta.&nbsp; Throughout the story they are given clues, hints, and even a messenger that tells them what they are blind to.&nbsp; "Oh no no, I think I've just called down a dreadful curse upon myself- I simply didn't know!" (Sophocles 1163-1165) &nbsp;<br>      When Oedipus and Jocasta finally found out the truth, Jocasta was torn that she had children with her own son who she tried to kill.  "Once inside, she wailed for Laius, dead so long, the life that rose up to destroy him, leaving its mother to mother living creatures with the very son she'd borne." (Sophocles 1324-1328) Oedipus was distraught at the fact that he killed his own father, lied to his people, and defiled his mother.  Knowing the truth ultimately led to tragedy in death and in life... <br>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<br><br>&nbsp;&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
