What is twitter?

Twitter is a social media and news app in which people can interact with each other by posting and “tweeting” (messaging) people back.
Can tweet up to 280 characters
Besides tweeting a text of your choice, you can also make polls on twitter to where people are able to vote on them for a time period of your choice.
Example: 1 hour, 2 hours, 1 day, etc.

Pros to Twitter

Parents and/or students can follow the teacher on twitter and turn on notifications for when the teacher tweets.
This allows both the parents and students to get immediate updates from the teacher.
A lot of students already have a twitter account
Twitter lets you to follow thousands of people.
This allows you to explore many different opinions all around the world.
Can make your account private so only people with your permission can follow you.

Cons to Twitter

There are obviously not so great people on twitter (and other social media sites)
Must warn your students to be careful
Some news and tweets are not reliable sources.
It is not something for K-8th students.
Not a source to use as a teacher if some students’ parents don’t allow them to have the cite.
