APRIL 2, 2019 - One thing that I noticed as I made the stars on the window at the far right is that the stars are not the same as the others. The marker didn't hold on the window and it became wonky looking. It was rough and patchy. On Thursday, Hannah and I plan to wipe the window with water first and try again to see if the marker will hold better.

APRIL 4, 2019 - Today, I wiped the window with water to see if the stars would hold better, but they didn't. I'm not sure if it's because the sun is hitting this spot more than the other windows or not. I am going to try and go over the stars again and try to layer it on top of each other. Hopefully this works.

Also, I've never used window markers before and it was helpful to use and practice. I'm still curious as to why they didn't stick on the third window panel.

APRIL 10, 2019 - I have never made tissue paper flowers before, however using tissue paper to make them was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I enjoyed making them and I think I would choose to use tissue paper in the future because I really like the way they look, and I am glad we chose to use tissue paper.

But, Hannah and I decided to leave them up to see if they would fix themselves by settling overnight.

APRIL 4, 2019 - The stars did not fix with settling so we decided to try again. We decided to wipe the window down before redoing the stars this time to see if that would help. However, the stars still didn't hold. Instead of getting rid of them completely, we hope that the tent will pull attention away from the messed up stars and to the tent, or rather, looking at the piece as a whole.

APRIL 2, 2019 - In order to construct the tree, we used construction paper. We both have used construction paper but not in this way. Using the construction paper just made sense because it was already brown, easy to shape, and easy to hang. I also believe this was the best medium to use for the tree because it is heavier and represents a tree like material better than tissue paper or anything else. Also, it is much easier to use brown construction paper than to use something like mixed media and color it yourself because we weren't sure how much we would need.

APRIL 10, 2019 - The only thing I have ever used tissue paper for was making a piñata in Spanish 2. So when Hannah suggested we make tissue paper flowers I was a little concerned that I wouldn't be able to make them. However, after watching the video we did and chose the ones we liked most, I found myself enjoying making the flowers. I think in the future if I ever need to make a flower, I will use tissue paper again.

APRIL 26, 2019 - The campsite idea looked really good in our heads, so I wasn't exactly sure if it would look as good as it did in our heads. However, Hannah and I were able to pull it off and it looks almost identical to our original plan.

This helped us figure out where to put things and how they would fit in relation to each other. This also helped us see what other things we may have needed to add to the installation in order to fill empty spaces.

APRIL 10, 2019 - We wanted to add some mini flowers around the grass to add some color to the whole installation since the majority of it are the same colors (blue, green, yellow). We have a lot of the same colors repeating and we felt like we needed something else. We decided to use tissue paper to make the flowers, so we looked at a video on youtube to see the different options and to see how to make them. We decided to use tissue paper to construct them because of how colorful it is but also how thin it is. I think that construction paper wouldn't have been a good choice just because it's a heavier type of paper. I also think the thin-like texture represents a flower better than any other material.

APRIL 8, 2019 - In order to make the tree come to life, we decided to add some texture to it by adding the bark like lines. This was to add something to it and to make it feel a little more campy and realistic. If you go outside, there isn't a tree that has 100% smooth bark.

APRIL 12, 2019 - At most campsites, there is a sign saying what camp it is. In order to add more to the scene, we put a sign that says "DHS CAMPSITE" to express that feeling of being at an actual campsite. It also adds a name to the installation instead of just having a campsite set up in the hallway. It makes it feel more cohesive having a name.

APRIL 26, 2019 - We decided to add some animals because in real campsites there are unexpected animals everywhere. You never really know where they're coming from or where they'll go. I think the animals add another level to the whole piece filling in blank spots.

Overall, I am happy with the campsite. I believe it looks identical to our sketch. My favorite part about the campsite is the tree. This is my favorite part because not only did it take the longest, but I think it adds more to the whole installation. If the tree wasn't there the wall would be blank and I think it would look weird without it there. Also, in general I just really like how the tree looks. I'm really glad we added texture to the tree as well because without it, it would be flat and just construction paper on a wall. Also, I love the squirrel in the tree. Again, I think it adds something to the piece rather than just a tree on the wall. Even though I love the campsite, there is one thing that I don't like. The one thing that drives me crazy every time I look at the installation, is the stars. The stars on the third window panel look terrible in my opinion. I'm not sure why they didn't hold. We didn't want to remove them because if we did that would look weird, but having them there wasn't the greatest. In general I like the stars, just not that section.
