CJ asked his Nana questions while waiting for the bus and on their bus ride. CJ wanted to know why they needed to wait in the rain, why they did not have a car like his friends and why their bus stop was always so dirty. But, Nana responded to CJ's comments and questions with positive, imaginative remarks that made CJ think creatively. So, CJ began to look at the city around him and see the beauty around him just as his Nana did.  Then, CJ and his grandmother got off at their bus stop. CJ gazed at everything around him and acknowledged his sourroundings for all of their unique differences. Finally, CJ and Nana arrived at their soup kitchen and he noticed all of the familiar faces. Later on CJ realizes the importance of everyone's differences. He is able to recognize the importance of charity and helping others in need. CJ has encounters on the bus with many diverse individuals. Although CJ and his Nana have to take the bus and wait in the rain, there are many other individuals in the community who have less than CJ. CJ learns how to appreciate what he has in life and the importance of helping others.

Mature- CJ's new ideas of seeing the world around him show his maturity. CJ begins to understand the diversity among all the individual's he encounters and the beauty of the world around him. CJ begins to understand why they volunteer at soup kitchen and how the people who come are in need of food to eat. Although Cj was extremely questionable of their lifestyle's and other individuals in the book, she was consistently patient with her grandson. Nana never gave CJ any responses that were negative, she always gave postive responces to educate CJ on the diversity of people and their lifestyles. Nana never told CJ to stop asking questions but she always accepted his curiousity.

Giving- Every week after church, Nana and CJ volunteer at the soup kitchen. Nana teaches her grandson the importance of helping others in need. Instead of Nana and CJ going home or allowing CJ play with his friends, she uses her time to help others. Nana is a very considerate, giving,  and kind citizen who thinks abouts others. Nana is the prime example of a role model for others. Students can brainstorms ways in which they find feelings of magic and brighter moods.
