         <description><![CDATA[<div>I agree that losing reading specialists makes it more difficult to help our low readers grow.  This was a district decision as our reading specialists are provided by the district funds.  We could buy up a portion of this as a building,  but lower gen ed class size and alternative classrooms are a higher priority for the school’s budget.  It is our hope that with smaller class sizes, differentiated instruction and more targeted use of the support resources that remain we can meet the needs of our struggling readers in a different, and possibly better way, than we have in the past.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I would ask, why not?  I do understand that some EL students need service beyond an intervention during RtI.  Could they receive service in both the grade level RtI time and at another time in the day?  I would think that an EL teacher/para support during RtI could be helpful to the overall support being utilized during that time by a grade level team.  I do know it can be difficult for our EL teachers to provide service to all of the students on their caseload so currently, they may have to use the RtI block as the primary time to conduct that service.  Which would beg the question, can there be a way to utilize the EL teachers as a resource during RtI and also in a different manner during the rest of the school day?   As intervention support has shrunk, this question may need more attention as we look at providing both RtI and EL service in the coming school year.</div>]]></description>
