I enjoyed the Bluest Eye, a novel engrossed with a unique mixture of misery and hope that it's words become poetry in the form of paragraphs. The book is a parable: it teaches the reader not only the story of an unfortunate brown-eyed girl born in the wrong body, but also allows the reader a glimpse into the accepted consciousness of a black community surrounded by prying blue eyes. One of my favorite aspects of the novel was this glimpse. Morrison allows the reader to almost identify within Pecola, and understand her fears, her doubts, and most importantly, her self-hatred.
