The Nez Perce people relied on skinning large animals like buffalo to make their tipis for shelter. It only took 20 minutes to put up the tipi! Tipis were made by buffalo skin which was held up by poles. The poles were often made by lodgepole pine, they named it that because the trees would grow tall, slender, and strong and are just the right size and strength for tipi poles.

The Nez Purse made tipi's as a shelter. How they would make the shelter is the men would hunt game (buffalo) and the women would make the skin soft and able to make into shelter and tipi's. The tipi's were easy to take down and easy to build back up again. They also could be unfolded at the top for smoke to come out when the fire is made. They can be folded again so if it snows or rains the tipi's will stay dry. At the bottom it can be rolled up for cool air to come in, in the summer.

The Nez Perce used tents called tipi's. They used these tipi's because they were easy to make and easy to take down. the tent was made out of wood that were shaped like long poles for the base then they would cover it with buffalo skin, after that they went and added a few more sticks so it was big and strong. after they were done they would paint the outside and decorate it. As you can see the Nez Perce relied on tipi's because they were very easy to take down and put up when they were hunting for buffalo.

The Nez Perce made tipi's and shelter so they could survive but it was not that easy. They had to skin the buffalo and held it up by poles. The could put them up and bring them down and it was easy. And the coolest part is that the inside and outside were colored in natural dyes and colors. They had to lace the tipi's toghther so they wouldn't fall and had "smoke flaps" so when it rained they didn't get wet. And they made so many for all them to survive in.
