  • In New Zealand the Maori people our connected to the environment because they believe that the natural world carry's mauri (life force). And that the people of the world have a responsibility to look after the environment. 
  • The concept of family lineage is central to Maori beliefs where everyone and everything is descended from the sky father ranginui, and the earth mother, Papatjanuku the ideas of mana (pride/prestige) and 'tapu' (sacredness) shape the customs and laws of traditional Maori life. 
  • 600,000 Maori people live in new Zealand now and 140,000 Live in Australia. 
  • They still face many social and economic problems such as health problems, Poverty and higher crime rates. since 1960 the Maori people have been fighting for social justice and quality. Land and natural resource's have been returned to iwi as part of treaty of waitangi settlements.

Because of the cold they live in warm shelters called igloos made by stacking ice cubes on to of each other in to a sphere with a hole in the middle to let the smoke from the fire out.

They built their villages called Kotan along the river were salmon spawned they fished the river and grew crops along it. Their houses had windows facing up stream for the spirt of bears living in the moutains to come and go.

     40% live in forested interior and coastal communites are userly fisher mans They do not take more then they need form forest, the sea and river.

    150,000-200,000 Orang Asli live in Malaysia representing less then 1% of the world population. Still facing social, political and economic barriers.

    Only 1% percent of Orang Asli people live in developed towns.

    Ta moko is unique to everyone, The tatoos show tribes heritage ans social status.
