" Mom told us we would have to go shoplifting. "isn't that a sin," I asked mom" on page 111 there is a part where the mom tells Jeannette that it is bad to steal but she went to the clothing store and stole a dress and said that if you don't have money it is OK to steal sometimes. when she grow up she didn't want to be remembered as the kid that her mom was broke and had to steal stuff. I like Jeannette's point of view because there is so much detail that she put in the memoir. Jeannette told herself when she grows up she will not become like her parent and will be a better person than them. Jeannette experiences homelessness all her life from the beginning of the book till almost the end of the book. I am saying almost because she starts growing up and finds a husband that can take care of her. Jeannette was ashamed that she was homeless so she didn't tell anyone that she doesn't have money or that she is living in the streets. “This is something that I lived with, with a secret, for a long time. I didn’t tell anybody that my mother was living on the street and in fact that I was homeless from time to time. "Some babies are premature. Mine were all post-mature. That's why they're so smart. Their brains had longer to develop." this is an example of how her kids are smarter because they were born way earlier than everyone else. She will start feeling vary insecure about herself. But she kept being positive about it and tell her self that he will do it some day.
