Industrial purification water is also known as large-scale water purification. This many relates to factories/ industries who supplies the country with water such as GEBE for example.

Water can become polluted in many different ways as it moves through the environment. Purification is required to make water safe for human use.

The aim of water purification is to ensure the drink water is:
-safe for consumption
-is clear and not discolored.
-has an acceptable taste.
-has an acceptable smell.

They are many ways in which industrial purification of water which can be done in four different ways:
1. Screening- water which derives from rivers, lakes and reservoirs passes through grid screens to remove large floating materials and suspended solids.
2.Sedimentation- is the process of water being pumped to a settlement tank where the particles coagulate (clumps together) and settle.
3. Filtration- the process of where the clear water from the settlement tank passes through sand filters containing microorganisms. These microorganisms remove organic matter from the water by feeding it.
4. Chlorination- is the filtering of water is treated with chlorine to kill all harmful bacteria in the water. Fluoride is sometimes added to this stage to reduce tooth decay.

Since there's a great amount of waste, we must ensure that this does not pollute our surroundings. A local incinerator may be useful to dispose waste. They should be used sparingly because of the environmental air pollution by carbon dioxide.

Boiling- for a few minutes generally destroys all harmful organisms (makes the water safe)
2. Distillation- boiling the water and then condensing the steam on a cool surface to remove the salts.
3. Bleach purification- purifying water with bleach
4. Sand filtering- harmful materials found in the water are filtered out by the sand.

Large Scale Sewage Treatment
The treatment that is best for sewage treatment is disposal. This carries the sewage in pipes called sewers to a sewage works. At a sewage works two main methods if sewage disposal are used. These are biological filter methods and activated sludge method. Biological filtration is the action of bacteria in the tank breaking down dangerous ammonia, converting them to nitrites, and then the nitrites to the less toxic nitrates. The activated sludge process is a type of wastewater treatment process for treating sewage or industrial wastewaters using aeration and a biological floc composed of bacteria and protozoa.
Two ways of biological filter methods are: Sedimentation and Percolating Filter which is also known as trickle filter.
Sedimentation is the process of allowing particles in suspension in water to settle out of the suspension under the effect of gravity. The particles that settle out from the suspension become sediment, and in water treatment is known as sludge. Percolating filter are used to remove organic matter from wastewater. It uses a biological filter to treat te effluent run off from the sedimentation tank. This filter consists of concrete tanks some two meters high, filled with clinker coke or small stones.
