         <description><![CDATA[<div>1 million students attended high school in 1914 and by 1926 that number rose to 4 million. Public schools faced many challenges as well. The main one being teaching immigrant families. It became very difficult to teach them English but teachers overcame this and created literate American immigrants. Taxes also increased to support the schools.</div>]]></description>

These included the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) led by James Weldon Johnson fought for legislation to protect African American rights and this group represented the militant voices of colored people, Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) led by Marcus Garvey believed that colored people should create a separate society for themselves they were the radical group and several more were also created. </div>]]></description>
