He is barely eating dinner and is getting ready for the rumble. The excitement is building for the gang. As they leave, they are all doing acrobatics off the steps trying to out show the person before them. While walking to the lot, Darry is questioning Ponyboy about fighting and weather he is well enough after losing all the weight. Then Darry says to Ponyboy and Soda that if the police come, they have to leave. He is being a typical big brother. When they get there, they meet up with Tim Shepard's gang. Darry is chosen to start the rumble because he is the biggest and most intimidating. When time comes, he ends up slowly circling around with an old friend that he now hates - Paul. As Paul throws the first punch, Dally comes running up. He used Two-Bit's switchblade to convince the nurses to let him out. Ponyboy is getting badly beat, kicked in the ribs, thrown to the ground, kicked in the side of the head. Then the Socs start running! The second it is over, Dallas is itching to go see Johnny. On their way, the police are escorting them. When they get there, he is dying. In the last moments of his life, he got all he ever wanted. Dallas saying he was proud of him. His last words were, "Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold...". Dallas took it hard. He was punching the wall, face contracted in agony. Dally's death caused excitement. When he called, they left sprinting down the street to help their friend who's going to be killed.     When I read this poem, I can see leaves that are green and gold. I can also see dawn turning into day.
    2. What is Robert Frost suggesting with each use of this type of imagery?
    Using the imagery of gold and green leaves, he is suggesting that the the leaves are gold for "Only so an hour", then they turn green. Using the imagery of dawn turning into day, he is suggesting the same as the leaves. The innocence at first can't stay.
    3. How can this poem relate to The Outsiders and its characters?
    Frost is trying to say that nothing pure/innocent or "gold" can stay. It relates to The Outsiders because Ponyboy and Johnny were gold until they killed the Soc and ran away. As Johnny is dying, he is telling Ponyboy to stay gold or, pure.
