During a conversation where it is important for both individuals to have an understanding of one another, a way of showing understanding would be to complement, by nodding one's head to another's discussed idea. Nodding my head in either approval or disapproval would help me in a job interview because that would allow space to discuss our similarities or differences in our discussion. I think that contradicting can create interest within the interview because this is where mixed messages can be present. For example, if the person interviewing me told me to fill out the paperwork, I could respond in a rude tone, "No, I cannot do that" followed by a wink, which would indicate that I am joking or teasing. I think it is important for everyone to speak their voice and opinions during a conversation. Having control such as hand gestures or leaning forward can show one wants to initiate their thoughts or another conversation. I think a great way to substitute would be to initiate a handshake with the interviewer. Another great way to gesture during a conversation would be signaling an "ok" or a "yes" by nodding my head. These gestures allow the interviewer to see that I am agreeing and understanding what they are saying.
