WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR CHILDREN TO PLAY WITH TOYS THAT REFLECT THINGS THAT KNOW ? It is impotent for children to play with toys that reflect things they know because it helps them them feel seen, understood, and included, They would like and often use toys that are familiar and look like family, pretend to play with food from their culture, they play with toy tools that are used by adults ,language development, the variety of toys helps connect real life and experiences. It helps them learn and express their thoughts and feelings in a save creative way.

How does it feel to focus on a cultural skill (sewing) as a part of your classwork?

-For me, focusing on a cultural skill (sewing) as a part of my class work feels amazing, fun and relaxing. Because it’s what I grew up doing for most of my life, I enjoy it and it enjoy making projects for my family, friends and everyone around me. Sewing gives me a piece of mind knowing that they appreciate what I make for them and I love to see their reactions when the project is done.

Caryn

Q1: How does it feel to create using your own sewing skills?

I felt so proud and made me happy .Because the polar bear I made can give them comfort and joy. Every-time I see them playing the toy I made and looks happy, it inspires me to make more toys for them and at the same time it develop my sewing skills. And it reminds my inner child because I grew up in a family where sewing was one of our sources of livelihood.

Vanissa
