The first person to be awarded the Pierre De Coubertin award was Luz Long. He won the award because he gave long-jumping advice to the black American Jessie Owens, even when he was a German and with Adolf Hitler watching. This was in the 1936 Berlin games. I like this moment, because he stood against the stereotype and helped an American, even though Hitler was watching.

Picture: http://static2.thisisinsider.com/image/57bb102a04732f24008b509c-1200/1964-luz-long.jpg

Source: http://www.thisisinsider.com/how-many-athletes-have-won-the-pierre-de-coubertin-medal-2016-8/#1964-luz-long-1

Oh yeah did I mention she was 11 years old when she won? This medal was awarded at the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria. This is my favorite olympic moment because it represents the sportsmanship involved in the olympics, and it's not always about winning. It also shows that athletes, although they try their hardest in events, respect all other athletes also competing.

This is my favorite Olympic moment because to add on winning 2 gold medal he also broke a world record while doing it. He ran the 400 meter in 43.39 seconds, and he also became the first man to win both race in the same Olympic.

2016 Rio Olympics had their first refugee camp

Some escaped war, death, their country where they were forced to leave, and war. Athletes spread out over the world without a country or a home. IOC raised $2 million for refuge athletes to play and join the olympics. The refuge teams played basketball, track, and wrestling. The Rio 2016 Olympics was the first time having and training a refuge team. This is my favorite event because it gave people with big dreams and not a lot of money or no home, a chance to do what they love in the Olympic Games.

He was one of the firsts African American medalist. He ran the final marathon barefooted. Brushing off sneers from his competitors, Bikila soon left them in the dust, flying over the ancient cobblestone streets and into the history books. He couldn’t find a pair of shoes that he liked so he ran with no shoes. Who was involved, Abebe Bikila. It happened in 1960. It was in Rome. This is my favorite moment because it is hard to run a marathon and he ran it with no shoes.

Morris “Bud” Fisher was an all american shooter and a U.S. naval shooting instructor. He competed in the 1920 and 1924 summer olympics (Antwerp, Belgium. Paris, France). He won five gold medals in the 300-800m rifle shooting events. His medals included three position free rifle (300m), three position free rifle (600m), and three position all around (400m, 600m, 800m). His olympic career ended in 1928 when shooting was dropped from the long list of sports the olympics offered. Shooting did not return to the olympics until 1948, long after Fisher had retired from both his sporting and military career. He was a great all around american shooter and should be remembered for his dedicated skill and service to this country.
