My parents overall don’t really care if I did follow in their footsteps or not, they feel that I should do whatever I want to do and if that so happens to be what their job is then great. They’d be happy for me regardless and wouldn’t care if I did or not. I don’t mind putting some pressure on the kids but when you put enough pressure that they become stressed and worried then it’s a problem. Many parents to push and pressure their kids but they do it to an extent where it overall isn’t harmful. On the other hand some parents push their kids so hard that they think their life is over if they don’t get the right job.

Some consequences of those who don’t conform is that they are alienated and separated from everyone else for being different from what we are typically used to. It must be very difficult to be a nonconformist because you’re probably being pressured to conform to what’s normal and at the same time be pressure by others to not so you’d be stuck in this spot in the middle where you have to choose a side which must be very difficult. It also must be veryscary and annoying to constantly be judged or bothered into conforming to the norms of society which could be something the person doesn’t want to exactly do

Sunny loves his family and compassionate to them but he keeps questioning whether he’s actually hated. He knows his mom loves him but he questions whether his brother and father feel the same way or if they straight up hate him. After Sonny’s mother describes what possible jobs he could obtain as an adult Sonny asks “Why doesn’t Dad like me?” (Hickam 45). Here Sonny is wondering whether his father shares the same feeling Sonny has for him. He loves his father very much even though he doesn’t get to see him often because of the coal mine. Him feeling and almost knowing he’s being neglected shows that he really wants to have a close family that loves and respects each other. Since he doesn’t see this as the case it hurts him to know that a big chunk of his family could be sitting there hating him for his whole life. After Dr. von Braun’s rocket successfully gets launched into space Sonny and his friends are ecstatic and cheering when his dad walks in. After he seems really interested and also excited Sonny cheerfully explains “We’re going to space Dad” (Hickam 77). In this quote Sonny is relieved to know that this possible idea of his where part of his family hates him, isn’t true. He sees his dad being interested as something they can connect on and bond over. He’s excited to have some reassurance that one piece of his family thinks of him differently than what he thought. Sonny now sees that his definition of family could be true. Where his Dad and Mom both love and support him. He hasn’t had much assurance that his Dad did either so to have a moment where that idea is thrown out the window is really exciting and comforting for him.
