Claim: Bey began to realize at 18 years old that he did not want to live a troubled life. He got arrested at a young age and once he went to jail, he realized he wanted to do better than that and not go down the wrong path just because of mistakes so he began to change his life and do better.

"I began to mature and wake up and realize that this is not the life that I wanted to live."

Juveniles aren't given the chance to improve their lives and are not properly guided. Juveniles should be given guidance on how to change their lives and become something bigger. The juveniles growing up do not have connections with their parents and they have no one to guide them down the wrong path but with rehabilitation and incarceration, they can realize that they should not make major mistakes.

"They lived with their mom and grandfather in a two-story row home with a front lawn and a back porch. Their mom was struggling with addiction all while the boys were growing up."(6:41)

Juveniles that have do not have a stable home have a hard time making the right decisions and going down the right path.

I think that juveniles should be charged as adults when the crime has to do something with taking away the life of another person or attempting it when they had to go through the whole process of planning it out.

"The victims of their crimes do not care if the perpetrator is 16 or 66; the consequences of the crimes are the same."(Weir)

The person who committed the crime was 17 and a few months away from their 18th birthday, which he did plan meaning he was thoughtful, deliberate and cunning when he was plotting and then proceeded to deliver the execution as well.

Some colored juveniles are abused and treated poorly in the juvenile system compared to "white" juveniles. Colored juveniles aren't given a second chance even if they do the smallest crime or even some cases didn't commit the crime.

"Some politicians are leaping to facile conclusions and taking it out on an easy target- young people of color." (p.5)

In the juvenile justice system it seems as though juveniles of color are more targeted than other juveniles. Whether that's not giving them any chances, being sexually assaulted, or even ending up committing suicide. Juveniles of color are also 8 times more likely to be held in an adult facility as their white peers.

I think that they should get a say in sentencing the juvenile who did commit the crime because there is no way to describe the feeling and emotions towards that person who has possibly committed a crime against you or even taken away the life of a loved one.
