The speaker compares his lady to a summer day. In the poem he expresses that a summer day comes to an end too soon. This can mean that he may feel as if he does not have enough with his lady. The poem states, "But thy eternal summer shall not fade," this idea of summer fading may represent his love for the lady stating that it can never run out.
