This tree pat first provides him happiness being able to swing from the branches, eating the apples, and just sitting and enjoying. It was his best friend, as he got a little older, he no longer visited the tree as much and when he returned he asked the Tree for a favor, he needed money, so she told him to take the apples off her and sell them for money. He then after another long period of time, comes back and needs a house for a family, he takes the branches, then after much longer returns and needs a boat, so he takes her trunk. Finally, at last he returns and just enjoys the stump to sit and relax. He is a fish who has some very sparkly, shiny scales. Every other fish in the ocean is in love with his scales and wants some. When he is asked by a little fish if he could have one of the fish's scales, the rainbow fish is very rude and selfish saying he could never share his shells, but then realizes is he very sad. Once he is given the cookie the story takes you on a series of events that show the objects the mouse desired to have after the cookie. He does many things, coloring, cutting his chin hairs, sweeping, dusting, making a bed for a nap, and eventually just wants a class of milk, but once he has his class of milk he wants a cookie. He is full of color, while the rest are gray. He does not like being colorful and wishes to be gray like all the other elephants. He ends up painting himself gray to fit in with everyone else, but then while walking around, none of his friends recognize him and he starts to feel sad that nobody knows who he is anymore. He then realizes he likes being colorful, it makes him unique. Throughout the story brother and sister bear continue to make up lies as to why their mothers favorite vase broke to avoid telling her the truth. The truth being that they had a soccer ball in the house, going against a rule mama bear had made for them and while brother and sister were arguing about things to do together, the ball ended up breaking the vase.
