I remember back at the office on Baker Street how you lead all GMs along in an orientation and how it felt as the participant. It was amazing to see you in action as the educator and us as the learners. It honestly felt like a fun adventure with you at the helm. I so appreciate your honesty, your depth, and your care and concern for those around you. I think that the GM program was largely built around these values because of you. Thank you for being you, Alison. You rock.

Alison, I have come to adore who you are, and respect your wisdom in so many ways. You are a mistress of working the invisible in with the visible for a common cause. The GM program truly was a good idea which has filtered its way through the years into many manifestations of the caring, consideration and respect you brought to the program and colleagues....let alone our learners!
I apologize publicly for any and all grumpiness I brought to you and adore you for your ease with my frustrations.
I think given the changes in roles and scenarios at Self Design (High) you stand out as someone who can lean forward into trust for the yet to be unknown....something our graduates are living into as well. Thank you for who you are and all you have given to this organization. I have deep and fond memories of your grace at the 'table'.
Diane

Hi Alison,

It can be difficult to step down from a role that you've held for so long, isn't it? I remember how hard it was to leave certain jobs in the past. Ultimately, the best thing that you can hope for when you step down from a position is that you've left things better than when you first arrived.

I can say with wholehearted honesty that you have made the Guiding Mentor program better by being its leader. You took this vague, undeveloped idea and turned it into something that many learners have benefited from. Thanks to your guidance, I was able to develop an approach to the GM course that allowed my learners to consider their own goals and passions and develop those into a workable educational framework. Best of all, I got to help my GM learners plan for their futures by helping them research universities, write resumes, and lots of other great activities.

I have you to thank for everything that I described above. You were the only person who saw what the GM role could be, and you had the compassion, wisdom, and perseverance to make it a reality.

So, from all of us at SelfDesign High: thank you for making things better. You didn't just improve things; you changed things in a way that will impact all of us for years to come.

With gratitude,

Travis.

Alison, I've been at your side through the evolution from Guardian Mentors to Guiding Mentor and through all the ups and downs of trying to deliver (and fund) it - the one consistent has been you - your leadership, wisdom and confidence in the "praxis" and the experience of mentorship that we wanted to imbue on our learners. Thank you for keeping it real Ms. Frizzle :)
