There were ranks in Japan. The Emperor was the top, then the leader of the military, the Shogun. Next came the Daimyo, which were the rich and powerful samurai. then the warriors named the samurai. At second to bottom were the artisans and peasants. At the very lowest were the merchants, but the are higher up today. The shogun was really the person in charge because he could control more important people.

They were a small country and they slowly got bigger when the shogun moved his empire to the town named Edo, within one hundred years the town had grown to a population of over one million people.
They were a very structural country and they depended on themselves and not other countries.
When they got to be a more popular country more people started coming to Japan and bringing different religions in. The leader did not like christianity so he ban it and people going in or out. Everything was going fine, something happened that the leader didn't like, and no more interaction for a while. Japan is kind of like my neighbors in that way.
