Impulsivity of Youth

The entire play of Romeo and Juliet centers around the theme of youthful impulsiveness. Many of these decisions led to the tragedy that this play ends with. From two teenagers getting married less that 24 hours after meeting each other, to killing their own family members, their poor choices ends in tragedy with both of their deaths. The decisions throughout the play can be a lesson of what not to do for teenagers.

If Romeo and Juliet were teenagers in the current time period, one could imagine that they might use social media or technology to support their impulsive ideas. They would likely use the internet to listen to music and sharing poorly thought-out ideas. Romeo would have most certainly earned an award for being the most impulsive person, and Juliet would likely write in a journal to let out her thoughts.

Romeo is easily one of the most impulsive characters. His Pinterest board would include how to insult his enemies better, as well how to use a sword and win a sword fight. Romeo has never had to deal with any enemies before, so he never had to have insults. He also doesn't know how to use a sword properly, and needed to look it up.

It has been a terrible and amazing day. I know it seems crazy, but Romeo and I got married today. I was so giddy in the following hours afterwards, but then I got terrible news. There was a brawl in the town, and Tybalt was killed by Romeo in the fight. And that dumb Prince Escalus banished Romeo from Verona! I can't believe this! How could they think to do this? I must find a way to see him before he leaves.

Although Juliet is not as impulsive as Romeo, she still makes poorly thought decisions sometimes. Her decision to marry Romeo so quickly was quite impulsive. When she finds out about Tybalt's death, she is so fixated on the fact Romeo has to leave, not the fact that he killed her cousin hours after they got married.

One of the main parts of the play that supports the concept of impulsive youth is the fact that Romeo and Juliet. If Romeo and Juliet made a playlist, it would look something like this. Since they both wanted to get married so badly, they have the playlist centered around that. They also have multiple songs on being hidden/secret lovers, since their marriage is only known to Themselves, Friar Laurence, and the Nurse.

When Romeo is banished to Mantua, he spends multiple days outside of Verona, slowly growing more distant from the society. When Balthazar comes to deliver the news of Juliet's passing, Romeo immediately wants to go to back to Verona to see her. Both Verona and Mantua are said to be in norther Italy, so a map shows their significance in the play.
