The poem "O Me! O Life!" highlights the perishing dreams of those who fail to accomplish their goals, where its pessimistic atmosphere creates a gloomy presence in the audience. I found the author's central focus on the flaws of mankind as disturbing as it did not offer any advancements humans could adapt to further enhance their personal being. A similar feeling was induced upon watching The Dead Poet's society. Although the movie carried sentimental value between the friendships of adolescents, the ending reflected a similar feeling as Whitman's poem as it reinforced the idea that passionate dreams are bound to fail with the incursion of society.

My verse will be that I will abandon the infirmities of my life that serve no purpose in the development of my character as a civil being in society. We are surrounded with the casualties of the rich that serve no regard to our mental and physical well being. Social media dictates what we must wear, think, or act and leaves no proper fulfillment, rather than the fulfillment of Hollywood. To abandon these wrongful ideals is to abandon the face we present to the public. We would then be able to live freely according to our own will and our own happiness. This is my verse, I pledge that I will no longer run to satisfy the desires of those around me, and to live a life according to my own purpose of tranquility.
