Very simply, it is because even in his artworks made in a painting form, they are still incredibly reminiscent of sculptures, creating heavily detailed forms which appear like sculptures. A prime example of this is the Sistine Chapel, which has multiple incredibly sculpted human forms within, incredibly reminiscent of his nude portraits like that of David. Similar to earlier Renaissance works which painted this biblical figure, the sculpture depicts David during his famous battle with Goliath in the Old Testament. The insane amount of detail in this work is practically characteristic with Michelangelo, bringing a level of detail to sculpture unseen before. A testament to how emotion can be shown through sculpture, this Michelangelo art piece shows the sadness of the scene amazingly, with the holy mother cradling her dying son with a look of sad subdued grief on her face. Undergoing apprenticeships and being taken under the wing of the ruler of Florence, Lorenzo de Medici, potentially helped his skill of course, but there is an undeniable natural talent that Michelangelo had. Of course the power of Florence had waned, so the artist moved away and got work in Bologna and Rome, eventually having even the Pope commission artworks for him. Also as expected, there is an excruciating amount of detail with stone being carved to form both flowing locks of hair and flowing silk clothes, something that must be recognized as insanely difficult to create by chiseling something out of stone. A tablet of the Ten Commandments is held by Moses, but his appearance is perhaps not what one would expect of a depiction of an old wise man. After all, Brutus was a major figure in the Classical Era, essential to the development of Rome, although in not a necessarily positive way. The sculpture is also still intrinsically Michelangelo, with detailed clothes which flow just like real clothes, and also an incredibly detailed face with the muscles being visible and the skin being detailed as well.
