         <description><![CDATA[<div>Grit and Perseverance –I have several  students who constantly press for better grades or additional points on tests. Usually, they approach me like Columbo (sorry young teachers may not know this reference) asking me to justify points deducted. After a bit, they continue to press for clarification.  These students are usually relentless in their pursuit of higher grades and I absolutely love it! It shows me their passion for success, improvement, and ambition.  It also makes me mindful of my grading when tackling their papers! My father’s favorite quote was, “you just can’t teach ambition!” I’d like to figure out how to foster more of it in our students-- growth mindset is very interesting.          <title>Low Floor High Ceiling Tasks</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Jo Boaler recommends creating tasks that are low floor and high ceiling. Low floor means the task has multiple starting points, so all students can build on their success. High ceiling means the task has the opportunity for students to extend and challenge themselves to higher levels. My students&nbsp; have worked on a few of these this year.&nbsp; It is encouraging to see students from all different levels of background knowledge working on a letter to a company trying to convince them to buy their math creation to sell in their store.<br>Pat Maia</div>]]></description>
