The war ended in 1918 with the help of the Treaty of Versailles where various central power especially German had to pay debt to the victims of the World War. 

After some years, German was not able to handle the debts so they declared war which was held by Adolf Hitler. They started invading Poland because Poland was an allied country with Great Britain and France and it was the closest country among the rest. However, it had a domino effect since Poland had allies to backup. This kept repeated and occurred until 1945 to the end of World War 2 where the United States won the war with nuclear weapons.
