the first double session we did with Chris was very different to what I have done before and was hard for me to enjoy it as it was something I was not comfortable with, however the next day I really tried to throw myself into it and ended up really enjoying it! I was able to create movement that I would usually be too embarrassed to do such as a love scene, the stuff we do is very demanding and tiring but its rewarding to see the work you have put together.

Monday- todays focus was on technique and readjusting back into routine, we learnt a short combo of movements that we can develop. I have found that since the class is smaller we have more productive sessions.
Tuesday- we started to use masks to take away the use of our facial expressions and focus on body language and gestures. in groups we devised a piece. we also had an introduction to UCAS and auditions which has helped me gain a better understanding. I also got tips on how to write a personal statement which helped me a lot.
Wednesday- we were introduced to personal enhancement which is something I do to make up my college hours whilst learning new skills, the first part was movement based we took basic movements, expanded and shared ideas to come up with a short piece of performance. second half was focused on acting, using different parts of our body to create sounds "soundscaping" to create an atmosphere or feeling. this was very interesting to me as it was something I've never done before.
Thursday- in singing we focused a bit on the lesson on how we look and stand whilst signing, we stood infront of a mirror and sung to ourselves to spot any habits we may have and to correct them to not look so awkward. personally, I could not spot any habits and awkwardness whilst I was doing this but I could see how this would be helpful for other people

Monday- looked at different styles of tap and how each style varies and adapted from the original style of tap. this was very interesting to look at.
Tuesday- in acting we tried to perform a good/bad news scenario to see how we change our body language to fit our mood. we also started filling out our UCAS applications which was easier than I thought it was going to be.
Wednesday- in the morning session we started to focus on classical theatre, more specifically, Shakespeare. each group was given characters, two props, and two emotions and with this we started to develop a scene making it as Shakespearean as we could. this was something I really enjoyed because even though we had a set task we also had our own creative influence and came up with some good ideas.
Thursday- In singing, Dave spent time with us to figure out our vocal range to make finding audition songs that suit our voice easier and to so we can put on applications what our range is, mine is;
lowest- F3
highest-A5 this puts me as a Mezzo Soprano.

Monday- learnt some tap combos, at first I really struggled with this as it was something I've never done before but I got easier as we continued, some of the moves seemed unnatural to me such as a double ball change. in Jazz we started learning a dance from Chicago "all that jazz" as we are focusing on Bob Fosse's work how you walk and move your limbs if very different.
Wednesday- in groups we performed our classical theatre pieces and each individually got feedback, something I was told to work on is sustaining character even if something goes wrong or is funny. receiving feedback like this is very helpful as it gives you specific things to work on your own rather than the whole group itself.
Thursday- started to thing about my question for my seminar, I want my topic to be based around the famous composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and if his religious views affect the work he does or jobs he continues to compose for. In singing Dave worked with us in groups to find our vocal break, "The vocal break is the certain part in our range where we can't seem to go any further in chest voice and it does a 'flip' or 'change of gear' into a weaker and thinner head voice or falsetto tone" I had a one to one session with Kate and she gave me some more options for after college such as a HND

I teamed up with another membe3r of my course and we tried to mix contemporary and commercial.
Thursday- Danyals Artaud workshop- the theatre of cruelty. This workshop worked on testing people’s fears and how they react when they are scared I found this session very effective and had fun when we got to make our own piece around the concept of “life” in the same style.
Performed one of our audition pieces in front of a camera we each received written and verbal feedback which I have taken and will adjust my pieces accordingly. Performing in front of camera helps us get ready for when we perform for our unit 10

First song is Micheal Jackson- man in the mirror, as a massive Micheal Jackson fan I really enjoy singing this song. We are split into a boy group and girl group and sing different parts I am really liking how it is beginning to sound and I’m very excited to use this. We have also learnt 2 Christmas songs that we can use doe events and performances.
All I want for Christmas- we have some really nice harmonies for this song. I sing with the tune and an other group sings on top of the tune,

Monday-started learning a jazz pieces for the variety showcase, we are doing another Fosse piece which I’m very excited as everyone in the class looks amazing when they dance in that style and we have been told it really suits us and since we learnt a lot about fosse and his style last year I am able to incorporate that this year.
Tuesday- Rupert did a workshop on Brecht, Brecht wanted the audience to be aware that they are just watching a play and it is not real life he did this by breaking the 4th wall. in this workshop we tried to make each other uncomfortable with eye contact and facial expressions. and then did a scene around something political being sure to break the 4th wall and include the audience. I love including the audiences in pieces and hope to do more like that in the future.
Wednesday- commercial workshop. I LOVE commercial dance so I was very excited to do this workshop, I was put in the advanced class which I’m very happy about as I was able to show my abilities better, the dance teacher commented on my dancing and said I was really good and I am planning to go to one of her classes to learn more. Lisa and I performed our dance we had choreographed to the class and teachers and received some positive feedback, I'm very excited ad there is a chance it can be put in the variety show.
Thursday- Jemma did a workshop to inform everyone of one of Stanislavski techniques the "magic if" which is summed up as what would you or your character do in a certain situation this makes the actor put themselves into the characters situation, I really enjoyed this workshop and it was very interesting to see how we can easily change situations and I will love to incorporate this more.

Some exercises we did were rooted in repetition as word are deemed insignificant to the underlying emotion.there is greater focus on the other actor as opposed to ones internal thoughts or feelings associated to the character. I really enjoyed this workshop and found it very interesting it’s also my first time learning about this technique.

we had a workshop by a class mate on the "Meisner" technique. This technique encourages an actor to get out of their head, as the actor behaves instinctively to the surrounding environment. some techniques are rooted in repetition.
words are deemed insignificant compared to the underlying emotion, there is also greater focus on the other actor as opposed to ones internal thoughts and feelings associated to the character. I really enjoyed tis workshop and found it really interesting, as it was something new to me I volunteered to do the first exercise that involves repeating, actually participating gave me a better idea off the technique.

I need to work on tap timings and canon timings.

"Sing, Sing, Sing" is probably the most famous tune associated with Goodman, if not the entire Swing Era. However, it was originally a tune written by Louis Prima, and did feature vocals as the title suggests. Thus when it was imported into the band, it was originally intended as a feature for singer Helen Ward. However, the talented instrumentalists in the band kept changing it in performances, adding new passages and quotes from other songs like Chu Berry's "Christopher Columbus" to the point where it bore little resemblance to the original. But the most recognizable part of the song is Gene Krupa's drumming, which exists as a motif throughout the song. Ward recalls that one night Krupa refused to stop drumming when he got to the end of the third chorus and Goodman picked up his clarinet and soloed right along with him. The tune continued to morph in this fashion until it reached a length of eight minutes

At first the routine was quite messy and I personally struggled with some of the timing an tap movements, this routine focuses a lot on timing and counting in your head and once everyone was counting correctly the piece looked really good! and i think its once of our best pieces. From now to show day I am going to focus on remembering and keep polishing my bits.

we are doing a couple of scenes from one of William Shakespeare's famous plays. which include the wall scene at the beginning and the end. At first I was supposed to be a part of a scene with the four main character but now I'm dancing a transition of the beginning and end of the scenes, the concept is that we are fairies and magical creatures from the forest. so to achieve this, my group are wearing a very glittery makeup look completed with gems and for costume a black leotard, glittery silver skirt, black footless tights and barefoot. even though I did want a chance to act I do like our movement piece. In terms of feedback I have been told to hold my first position differently to make it look more pretty which I have done

In this piece I play 'Pride' also known as the root of all sins, the concept of this piece is laid out as a business meeting where all seven since (Wrath as the boss) are pitching ideas to start the Armageddon. However, pride has had a change of heart since its a very virtuous sin and does not want to be involved but can not tell anyone and ends up pitching the most perfect plan to destroy humans. For costume I am supposed to look well kept and proud of my appearance so I'm wearing a patterned blouse, trousers, heels, a bright lipstick, and statement earrings with my hair tucked behind one of my ears to show off the earring. I personally really enjoy this piece as its a chance to act and use my voice more, the majority of the feedback I have gotten is just to be louder and react more.

Stevie Wonder

For our class singing piece we are singing 'signed, sealed, delivered' famously performed by the one and only Stevie Wonder. My goal for this year was to get a mini solo in the variety showcase so when we were asked who wanted to sing, I was the first to volunteer and got the first two lines which I am very happy with. Compared to last years songs we all sound a lot nicer and have each improved with every rehearsal, I personally focused on remembering my lines, singing louder, and the choreography. The costume for this piece is black shirt, black trousers, gold glittery braces, and jazz shoes because Louise did not like the original costume idea

We managed to get a full dress run in before the show which was very lucky as there we some last minute issues with some costume which we were able to fix. Doing the dress run gave me a lot of confidence as I have planned out costume changes to make it go smoothly one the day. Something about doing a dress run enables to perform better and I think the show is going to go well. I was very pleased with how “maniac” turned out as it was the first time we were all here to rehearse it and it went really well and I can’t to perform!

Flash dance

We are doing a dance from flashdance called “Maniac” which is a very popular song. The video is basically of the main character exercising which is mostly the whole concept of flashdance and it’s VERY 80’s. Since I’m the dance we do some fast runs on the spot and jump into lunges, I took it on myself to do some of my own stretches at home to loosen my hamstrings which made it a lot easier. I really enjoy this dance and I think my class look really good doing it, my favourite parts are the lifts. My goals is to remember doing the kick, turn cause I keep forgetting. For costume I’m wearing a leotard, flesh tights, jazz shoes and neon footbands
